What are the cultivation methods for the carnivorous plant?
Many friends are not particularly familiar with the cultivation methods for the carnivorous plant, and problems always arise during the growing process. Today I will introduce the cultivation methods for the carnivorous plant, so let us take a look together.
Morphological characteristics of the carnivorous plant
Annual herb, without a bulb, 6-38 cm tall, upright or creeping, stems covered with short glandular hairs. Leaves alternate, pale green or red, linear, flat, 2-12 cm long, 1-3 mm wide, upper leaves straight, lower leaves curved downward in a prop-like manner; stipules usually absent, rarely degenerated into hair-like forms. The petiole and leaf blade are often difficult to distinguish, sometimes narrower than the leaf blade, covered with short glandular hairs or hairless, the hairless portion 0.8-2 cm long; the leaf blade portion is covered with white or red long glandular hairs.
Cultivation methods for the carnivorous plant
1. Temperature control: For sowing the carnivorous plant, the minimum temperature is best above 15°C, and the minimum temperature for overwintering during the growing period must be above 10°C. In northern regions, it should be overwintered in a greenhouse to avoid frost damage.
2. Seedling method: The carnivorous plant needs to be sown and raised in a seedling box or plug tray. The seedling box or plug tray should be placed in a greenhouse or small arched shed to increase the germination rate, and it is not suitable to raise seedlings in the open field.
3. Selection and preparation of substrate: For the cultivation substrate of the carnivorous plant, a relatively loose, fertile substrate with strong water-holding capacity should be selected. A commercially available seedling substrate can also be used.
4. Substrate disinfection: When sowing the carnivorous plant, the substrate should be disinfected to prevent invasion by pests and diseases. The substrate should be dried in the sun before use, and after sowing, a disinfectant should be used to soak the substrate thoroughly.
5. Sowing method: Because the seeds of the carnivorous plant are very small and inconvenient to handle, it is best to fix the seeds on absorbent paper, with one seed per red circle. Before sowing, cut out the seeds together with the absorbent paper, clamp the absorbent paper with needle-nose pliers, and place it on the surface of the substrate. The sowing rate is preferably 1-2 seeds per cell.
6. Covering: The seeds of the carnivorous plant are photophilic and need appropriate light to germinate better, so no covering is needed after sowing.
7. Spraying to maintain moisture: After sowing the carnivorous plant, the substrate should always be kept moist. Fine mist spraying can be used, or water can be soaked up from the bottom of the tray. The water should be disinfected with strong chlorine or Baidusha before use, and the relative humidity should be kept at around 90%.
8. Shading: The carnivorous plant is afraid of strong light. After sowing and during the seedling stage, strong light is not suitable, so a shade net should be used for shading to benefit the growth of the carnivorous plant.
9. Emergence: When temperature and humidity are suitable, the carnivorous plant can emerge in as little as about 25 days at the fastest, while at the slowest it will not emerge until after two months.
10. Disease prevention at the seedling stage: The seedlings of the carnivorous plant grow relatively slowly, so attention should be paid to preventing pests and diseases. Daily care should ensure ventilation and air permeability, prevent rain exposure, and 50% carbendazim wettable powder at 800-1000 times can also be sprayed regularly.
11. Transplanting seedlings: The seedlings of the carnivorous plant can generally be transplanted into pots for cultivation after they grow to 5 cm tall. When transplanting, be sure to keep the root ball intact, and it is best to plant a little deeper, burying 1 cm deeper than the original soil surface each time. It is best to transplant the carnivorous plant twice before potting it for cultivation. The seedlings cultivated this way are more robust, and the leaves are long and attractive.
That is all for the related introduction to the cultivation methods for the carnivorous plant. I believe that after reading this, everyone has gained some understanding of cultivating the carnivorous plant.
