The Kuomintang caucus held a press conference on the 2nd, pointing out that the price of guava (common guava) in April this year was not as good as the price in the same period last year, and the price of pineapple in April also showed a gap compared with last year, and called on Council of Agriculture Minister Chen Chi-chung to come up with countermeasures. In response, Su Mao-hsiang, deputy director-general of the Agriculture and Food Agency, said that guava prices have now stabilised and are higher than farmers' production costs, and pineapple prices this week are even higher than in the same period last year.

According to data from the agricultural products wholesale market price information site, the average auction price of guava in Taipei City in April of year 108 was 16.1 yuan, lower than the 45.4 yuan in the same period last year; the average auction price of pineapple in April of year 108 was 21.8 yuan, lower than the 30.9 yuan in the same period last year, and the Kuomintang caucus accordingly demanded that the Council of Agriculture come up with concrete countermeasures.

Kuomintang legislator Tseng Ming-chung said that he recently went to a fruit shop near the Legislative Yuan to buy guava, and the price was 100 yuan for 7 large ones, "Can farmers still make a profit like this?"; Kuomintang legislator Lin Yi-hua said that recently the prices of guava and pineapple have left farmers with nothing but losses; Kuomintang legislator Chen Yi-min said that in April Chen Chi-chung even gave each legislator a box of guava, but the guava should be sold off quickly. Kuomintang caucus legislators jointly called on Chen Chi-chung to respond as soon as possible on how to resolve the imbalance between production and sales.

On the 2nd, the Taipei City auction price of guava had reached 18.7 yuan per kilogram, much higher than the monitoring price of 10.8 yuan, and the auction price of pineapple on the 2nd was 26 yuan per kilogram, higher than 22.4 yuan in the same period last year. Su Mao-hsiang said that through the three methods of export, promotion and processing, guava and pineapple prices have already been stabilised. As for the current guava price being lower than in the same period last year, he explained, "When comparing prices, one should not use an especially high one for comparison," and that the current guava price is higher than farmers' production costs, so the Council of Agriculture will no longer intervene; this year, because of climatic factors, pineapple produced an early bumper crop, but this has also made the current harvest volume lower than in the same period last year, and pineapple prices this week are even higher than in the same period last year.
