How to sow and raise seedlings of Euonymus bungeanus? Technical points and price reference
Euonymus bungeanus, also known as silk-cotton tree, is a fairly typical flowering tree species, and applying it in landscape design can effectively enhance its aesthetic appeal.

Sowing and seedling-raising techniques for Euonymus bungeanus
Seed collection: Euonymus bungeanus blooms in May, and the fruit ripens in October. Seeds can be collected in mid-to-late October. Select vigorous mother trees that grow fast, bear fruit early, have excellent quality and are free of pests and diseases. After collection, first spread the fruit in the sun to dry; once the fruit skin cracks, collect the seeds and dry them in a cool, dry place in the shade. Do not collect seeds too late; if too late, the seed coat cracks and the seeds fall off, making harvest difficult.
Sowing method: Generally, sowing time is from mid-to-late March to early-to-mid April, and early sowing at the right time is best. If too late, weeds grow rapidly and easily "eat the seedlings," causing difficulties in seedling-stage management. Drilling is generally used: open furrows with a plow, 3 to 5 cm deep, with rows 20 to 25 cm wide. Evenly scatter the seeds into the furrows and cover with soil about 1 cm thick, then press down appropriately after covering. Under suitable soil moisture conditions, seedlings emerge in about 20 days. The usual conventional rate is about 10 kg per 667 sq m. The sowing rate is closely related to seed purity and germination rate. With high purity and a high germination rate, the sowing rate is small; conversely, the sowing rate is large.
Seedling-raising method: Use flat-bed seedling raising. Deep-plow the soil in late autumn, and when preparing the land, apply 6000 to 8000 kg of organic fertilizer per hectare. The following spring, harrow and level it, make beds 1 m wide, then water thoroughly once. After the water seeps in, when the soil moisture is suitable, rake it level and fine.

Control methods for the golden inchworm on Euonymus bungeanus
Damage: The adult of the golden inchworm on Euonymus bungeanus is about 13 mm long, with a wingspan of about 38 mm. The wings are white, with light gray and yellow-brown markings on the wing surface. The forewing has a circular spot in the median cell, and the wing base has dark yellow, brown and gray mottling. The egg is oval, with a reticulated surface. The mature larva is about 33 mm long and black. Newly hatched larvae are black and gregarious; after molting once, fine lines on the back become visible, and after the 3rd instar the feeding amount increases, often eating the leaves bare. The larval damage period occurs from late May to early-to-mid June, July, and August to September, and can drag on into October.
Control methods:
(1) Capture and kill adults. Since adults are not strong fliers, they can be caught manually with an insect net; blacklight traps can also be used to trap and kill them.
(2) Remove weeds to destroy eggs. Strengthen weed clearing in parks, courtyards and green spaces to eliminate egg masses and reduce the source of insects.
(3) Protect natural enemies. Such as tachinid flies, mantises, hornets, assassin bugs, beneficial birds, and so on.
(4) Chemical control. When a major outbreak occurs, use 0.5% Shuguojing (toosendanin) emulsifiable concentrate at 500 times, or 44% Duochongqing emulsifiable concentrate at 1000 times, or 20% Mieyouniao No. 1 at 10000 times. When using Mieyouniao, be sure to apply it before the larvae reach the 3rd instar.
