[Solomon's seal prices] How much do different varieties of Solomon's seal cost?

Solomon's seal (Polygonatum odoratum) is a plant that has gradually been gaining popularity in recent years, and its cultivation cost is not high, so growing Solomon's seal also has a fairly good market. However, the prices of different varieties of Solomon's seal vary quite a bit. Let's take a look below.

Cultivation techniques for Solomon's seal

Site selection and land preparation: It has no strict requirements for soil, but deep, fertile, loose, well-drained, slightly acidic sandy loam on a sunny slope is preferable. After the previous crop is harvested, plow the land to a depth of 30 cm, pick out stones and grass roots, break up the clods, and make raised beds 130-160 cm wide, with ditches 33 cm wide and 17-20 cm deep. Spread compost or farmyard manure on the bed surface at 2500-3000 kg per mu, then turn it into the soil.

Propagation method: Select plump, yellow-white rhizomes grown in the current year for use as seed. They can be dug, selected and planted as you go. Plant on sunny or cloudy days. Open horizontal furrows on the bed surface, with a row spacing of 30 cm and a furrow depth of 17 cm. There are two ways to arrange the seed stems: the double-row side-by-side planting method: place the seed stems in the horizontal furrow in a "V" shape, with the buds of one row facing right and the other row facing left, then press firmly with soil; the single-row dense planting method: place the seed stems in the horizontal furrow in a single row, with buds alternating left and right, so the plants emerge and develop in a balanced way, are easily exposed to sunlight, which is good for growth and increases yield. After planting the first row, cover with decomposed dry fertilizer, then cover with a layer of fine soil level with the bed surface, and then plant the second row.

Topdressing: In the second and third years, during the seedling emergence stage, apply 1000-2000 kg per mu of human manure. In the winter of the second year, apply barnyard manure and cake fertilizer at 5000 kg per mu.

Pest and disease control: Solomon's seal often develops Solomon's seal rust, but the damage is not serious. In late spring and early summer, when the temperature is low or moderate and humidity is high, the pathogen mainly harms the leaves. There are round or irregular brown-yellow spots on the leaf surface, 1-10 mm in diameter, with clusters of small yellow cup-shaped granules on the underside. For control, spray 0.1-0.2 degrees Baume lime-sulfur mixture or 20% triadimefon 2000 times dilution. Alternatively, use disease-free planting material as seed or remove diseased plants when found.

Harvest: Solomon's seal planted in the forest can be harvested after 1 year, but the yield is low and the size is still below specification. Solomon's seal harvested at 2-3 years old is best, with high yield and good quality. At 4 years old the yield is higher, but quality declines, cellulose increases, and effective components decrease. The harvest season is generally in early August. When harvesting, first cut off the aboveground stems with a sickle, then use a hoe (preferably a two-tooth hoe) to dig from front to back while moving backward, which can reduce damage to the underground stems. After digging them out, promptly keep the seed rhizomes, then remove the soil and the remaining aboveground stems. If the soil is dry and hard, use tools such as bamboo skewers to remove the soil. The branches do not need to stay connected, but try as much as possible to keep each Solomon's seal strip at its maximum length and reduce bending.
