[Anthurium Growing Methods] Points to Note When Growing Anthurium
Anthurium, also known as flamingo flower, attracts the attention of many flower lovers with its outstanding form. Many growers want to learn how to grow anthurium and what to pay attention to when growing it. I have gathered some knowledge about the growing methods and points to note for anthurium and am now sharing it with everyone.
I. Anthurium Growing Methods
1. Soil
Anthurium is suited to growing in loose, fertile, well-drained sandy soil, so when choosing potting soil for anthurium, you can use a mix of leaf mold, moss and other ingredients.
2. Light
Anthurium likes to grow in a semi-shaded environment and fears strong light. Direct strong light will cause leaf scorch. So when growing anthurium, pay attention to sun protection in summer, and in winter pay attention to supplementing light appropriately. Normally when growing anthurium, you can place it in a bright indoor spot without direct sunlight.
3. Temperature
The suitable temperature for anthurium growth is 20-28°C; both high and low temperatures are unfavorable for its growth. Therefore, when growing anthurium, pay attention to controlling indoor temperature and avoid placing it in an environment that is too cold or too hot.
II. Points to Note When Growing Anthurium
1. Control room temperature well
The optimum temperature for anthurium growth is 18°C---28°C; the maximum temperature should not exceed 35°C, and the minimum temperature is 14°C. Below 10°C, frost damage may occur at any time. In summer, when the temperature is above 32°C, cooling measures should be taken, such as increasing ventilation, spraying more water, and providing appropriate shade. In winter, if the indoor temperature is below 14°C, heating is needed.
2. Maintain relatively high air humidity
Anthurium growth requires relatively high air humidity, generally not lower than 50%; high temperature and high humidity are more favorable for anthurium growth. When the temperature is below 20°C, keeping the indoor natural environment is enough; when the temperature reaches above 28°C, spraying can be used to increase the relative humidity on the leaf surface and in the indoor air, so as to create a high-temperature, high-humidity growing environment for anthurium. However, in winter, even if the indoor temperature is relatively high, it is not advisable to cool and humidify too much, because overly wet leaves at night will instead reduce cold resistance and easily cause frost damage.
III. What Benefits Does Anthurium Have for a Room
Anthurium is also known as flamingo flower, painter's palette, and Anthurium andraeanum. It belongs to the Araceae family, Anthurium genus, and is a perennial herb. It has a spadix inflorescence and leaf-shaped spathes. Common spathe colors include red, pink, white, etc. Even when its flowers fall, its leaves can still be enjoyed. It can be propagated by sowing, division, and other methods. Pink anthurium is harder to cultivate than red anthurium. It is native to the tropical rainforest regions of South America. Its characteristics are that it likes warmth and fears cold, likes moisture and fears drought, and likes shade and avoids sun exposure.
Placing anthurium in a room has many benefits. For example:
1. It absorbs benzene and trichloroethylene, which are harmful to the human body in the air, and has the healthy effect of purifying the air.
2. As an ornamental potted plant, anthurium also has its unique feng shui effect. The main features of anthurium are: slender stems, green and thick leaves, flowers as red as fire, and a golden-yellow spadix. The red flowers grow on top (above the head), carrying the meaning of good fortune coming from above. Among the red flowers and leaves there is also a golden-yellow strip-shaped spadix, implying gold (money) in hand.
3. It can regulate indoor air humidity, absorb harmful gases, and improve indoor air quality.
The above are the growing methods and points to note for anthurium introduced for everyone. I hope more people will learn to grow anthurium, enrich their own horizons, beautify their living environment, and let themselves live every day in a beautiful and comfortable environment.
