[Growing the Money Tree] Six key points for growing the Money Tree

If the Money Tree is grown improperly, it can cause yellowing or dropping of leaves, seriously affecting its ornamental value. Today let us look together at six aspects of what to pay attention to when growing a Money Tree.

Proper lighting: The Money Tree should be placed in a spot indoors with plenty of sunlight. When positioning it, make sure the leaf surface faces the sunlight, and do not let it stay in shade for a long time, otherwise the branches and leaves will become twisted and deformed. It is best to spray the Money Tree leaves with water once every 3 to 5 days, which both helps photosynthesis and makes the branches and leaves more attractive.

Moderate watering: The Money Tree has strong adaptability to moisture. Generally, whether watered heavily outdoors or not watered for more than ten days indoors, it will not suffer from waterlogging or drought. But watering is still an important part of growing the Money Tree. Too little water easily causes stagnation of branch and leaf development; too much water may cause root rot and death; with a moderate amount of water, the branches and leaves grow thick and lush. The first principle for watering the Money Tree is to keep it moist rather than dry. Water more in the high-temperature summer season and less in winter; water more during the vigorous growth period, and water less for small newly planted plants. Under normal conditions, watering once every 15 to 20 days is enough.

Repot at the right time: Newly acquired Money Tree plants do not need repotting that same year, to prevent the tree shape from becoming distorted. The suitable season for repotting is spring, and it can also be done in July or August, taking advantage of the plant's semi-dormant state during the high-temperature period.

Suitable temperature: The Money Tree likes warm, humid environments with sun or slight shade, and its suitable growth temperature is 20°C to 30°C. The high-temperature, high-humidity season of summer is very favorable for the growth of the Money Tree and is its fastest growth period, so during this stage fertilizer and water management should be strengthened to make it grow robustly. In winter, the temperature must not drop below 5°C, and it is best to maintain 18°C to 20°C. It dislikes cold and damp conditions; in a humid environment, the leaves very easily develop ulcer-like frost spots, which harms its ornamental value.

Soil and nutrition: The Money Tree has relatively strict requirements for potting soil. The potting soil should preferably be slightly moist and well-draining, and an acidic sandy loam containing humus can be used. For nutrient soil, use 5 parts garden soil plus 2 parts sawdust and 2 parts sand and a little peanut cake powder. In addition, add 1 part sieved garbage and coal cinder and mix well.

Pest control: The pests the Money Tree is relatively prone to include mealybugs, cottony cushion scale, and mites. Mealybugs and cottony cushion scale are both scale insects, piercing-sucking pests. These two pests can not only make the Money Tree leaves lose their green color and affect its growth, but their excretions can also cause the development of black mold. Black mold is commonly known as sooty mold, and once the plant becomes affected, it seriously impacts its growth and ornamental effect. Therefore, when disease is found, it must be dealt with promptly. Generally, imidacloprid-type products or their improved formulations, such as Dinghong, Wanlihong, etc., can be used. After diluting by a certain multiple, spray on the leaf surface. Once a week, for 2-3 consecutive times, is basically enough to kill them completely. Mites are what are commonly known as red spider mites. Products such as Mancaoqing, Saomanjing, Yamansha, etc. can be used to kill them.

So, after the above introduction, are you more confident about growing a healthy Money Tree and letting it thrive? Generally speaking, growing a Money Tree at home is relatively easy, and it can also purify indoor air, so anyone who wants to grow one can give it a try.
