Nowadays, growing flowers and keeping pets are both ways people use to spend time at home and relieve their worries, but sometimes mischievous pets will eat the owner's plants. Are you also worried about how to deal with this? There is also the sawdust left after doing crafts or home projects. If used cleverly, it can also be used to grow flowers. Don't disbelieve it, let's take a look together.

Tip 1: Four ways to keep cats from eating plants

1. A protective barrier can be added around the plants being kept. Place wire mesh or isolation netting, or bury a few mothballs in the soil. All of these can help plants escape the cat's claws and avoid damage.

2. Spray some lemon water on the surface of the plants. Cats hate the smell of lemon water. Therefore, spraying lemon water can also help plants escape the cat's claws.

3. Add a few parasitic vines around the potted plants, or spray a bit of bitter agent on the plant leaves, and the cat will no longer come to gnaw on the plants.

4. When the cat is gnawing on plants, the keeper should give a stern scolding and punishment. If the cat repeatedly refuses to change, a water spray gun can be used as punishment. Slowly change the cat's habit of gnawing on plants.

Tip 2: How to cleverly use sawdust in growing flowers

1. It can be used as wrapping substrate for air layering: In the plum rain season, choose vigorously growing branches from last year, at 10-15 cm from the top, perform ring barking, then wrap with a plastic bag, fill the bag with wet sawdust and mountain soil, tie both ends tightly, then place the potted flower in a spot with half shade and half sun, and carry out routine care and management.

2. It can be used as a rooting substrate for cuttings: Take a plastic film slightly longer than the height of the cuttings and with a certain length, spread wet sawdust on it (does not drip when squeezed by hand), then place the cuttings at a distance of 2-3 cm, then cover with wet sawdust, with the top of the cuttings exposed by 1-2 cm. Finally roll it up and tie it tightly, with every 10-20 cuttings as a bundle, and place several bundles in a large plastic film bag, and slightly tie the bag opening to help retain moisture. Because humidity is easy to control, rooting is very fast.

3. Mix sawdust evenly with human feces and urine, place it in a plastic bag, tie the bag opening tightly, and keep it at 30°C-35°C. After 1-2 months, it will ferment and rot. Then air-dry until half dry, and mix it half-and-half with soil. Using it as potting soil to cultivate flowers and trees can make them grow with lush branches and green leaves, bright flowers and strong fragrance. After fermentation and rotting, sawdust has comprehensive nutrients, will not cause plants to have too much nitrogen and lack phosphorus and potassium, and is loose in texture, with moderate dryness and moisture. It is a simple soilless cultivation material. Its effect is as good as perlite powder.

Tip 3: How to care for flowers in summer

1. Flowers and plants cannot be exposed to the sun. You can move the flowers to the windowsill or balcony, hang a thin gauze curtain on the window, and then let the sunlight shine through. This allows the flowers to enjoy sufficient sunlight without being damaged by the sun.

2. In rooms with the air conditioner on, the air humidity is relatively low, which easily causes flowers and plants to have withered leaf tips and scorched edges. When placing flowers in an air-conditioned room, they should be kept away from the air outlet; when the air conditioner is not in use, open the windows to let the flowers absorb more fresh air.

3. Fern-root plants such as Masson pine and pothos are relatively fond of water, but in summer they should not be watered too much either. Generally, water once every two or three days. Cactus plants only need to be watered once every half month.

4. Many flowers grow very quickly after entering summer. To maintain a beautiful plant shape and abundant flowers and fruit, pruning and shaping are needed. For begonias, fuchsias, salvia, chrysanthemums, and so on, when they grow to a certain height, pinch off their tops, which can encourage more branching and more flowering. Many flowers often sprout small buds from the stem or branches, which should be removed in time to avoid consuming the plant's nutrients.

How about it, does this effect of sawdust make everyone feel suddenly enlightened? Especially now that summer is not suitable for too much fertilizing, sawdust can play a very important role. And the methods to keep cats from eating plants are also very practical, right?
