[What to Do When a Money Tree Loses Its Leaves] How to Grow a Money Tree

The money tree is a common foliage plant, evergreen through all four seasons and easy to grow, and it is also one of the feng shui plant varieties with a favorable meaning, which is why people love it. However, during the growing process, improper care and other reasons may cause the money tree's leaves to turn yellow or black, or cause the money tree to drop its leaves. So what should you do when a money tree loses its leaves?

What to Do When a Money Tree Loses Its Leaves

The money tree is a tree that is relatively difficult to keep alive in home care. During home growing, because it is hard to meet its growth requirements, it easily ends up dropping its leaves. If the money tree was just bought or has just been repotted, dropping leaves is normal. Plants need to metabolize, but how many leaves drop depends on the specific situation. However, if the money tree is watered too much or too little, gets too much or too little light, the soil is alkaline, or the temperature is too low, all of these can cause the money tree to drop its leaves.

In addition, if the money tree gets branch rot, it will drop its leaves. In mild cases, the leaves above the diseased part turn yellow and fall off. In severe cases, the area above the diseased part becomes bare and dries up. The emergency treatment is: for the former, brush on 100-fold ningnanmycin (or streptomycin), brushing the diseased part heavily, and apply it once more after 5-7 days to control the spread. For the latter, cut it off 5 cm below the diseased part, then treat it with the former method.

How to Grow a Money Tree

Watering should follow the principle of watering when dry and letting it dry between waterings, that is, water only when the soil has dried until it turns white, and when you do water, water thoroughly. Generally speaking, watering once every 5 or 6 days is enough. If the room is relatively dry, watering once every 3 or 4 days is also fine. Because the green money tree likes slightly acidic soil, in places where the water is very hard and tends toward alkaline, the water must be treated before it can be used for watering. You can use oxalic acid or sulfuric acid; after treatment, the pH will be more balanced, which is better for flower growth. The specific method is to take 5 mg of ferrous sulfate (available on the market) and mix it with 10 kg of water. Stir it evenly, then use it to water the flowers. When watering, be careful not to let water accumulate, especially in winter, when long-term moisture is the biggest taboo, because then the money tree will easily rot.

This money tree stores nutrients, so after a certain amount of time, this money tree will definitely wilt. If we take good care of it in daily maintenance, we can extend its ornamental period and make this fruit last longer. To make the green money tree's ornamental period longer, besides spraying more water, it is best to place it in a shaded spot. Because this plant is relatively shade-tolerant, if the light is too strong and the air is dry as well, this money tree will quickly lose water and wilt. Placing it in a shaded spot can keep it plump and emerald green. It will be fine for half a year or a year. But a place that is too shady is also no good; if there is no light at all, the green money tree will become leggy. This leggy growth happens because the temperature is too high or the spot is too shady. In this section, at first the temperature was too low, so it stopped growing and the leaves did not open; later, after we raised the temperature, the temperature was too high, so it put out branches again. The branches that grow are like bean sprouts, thin and spindly, and their ornamental value is greatly reduced. During the growing period, a little weak light, that is, half shade and half sun, is enough.

As a small potted plant, the green money tree does not grow very fast, so its fertilizer requirements are not high either: first, you can use rice-washing water; the water left after washing rice can be kept to water the roots as fertilizer. In addition, do not throw away the eggshells left after cooking; after crushing them and soaking them in water for half a month, the fermented eggshell water is a very good flower fertilizer.

Money Tree Price

The price of the money tree varies according to the size of the plant. Generally, a mini potted small money tree costs only around ten-plus yuan, while a medium-sized potted plant costs around 70 yuan. Larger ones can reach nearly 200 yuan.
