¤ Flower Pot and Soil Selection

Pitaya is a shallow-rooted plant, so the flower pot prepared must have good breathability. The common clay pot will do, but you need to make a few drainage holes in the bottom of the pot for ventilation and drainage. Then prepare the soil for growing pitaya. Neutral or slightly acidic soil is very suitable for growing pitaya, and at the same time this soil must be loose and breathable, so that pitaya can grow more healthily and quickly. You can also mix the soil yourself: fully and evenly stir leaf mold, manure soil and coarse river sand in a ratio of 6:1:1.

¤ Pitaya Pot Planting

Once everything is ready, you can start planting. Pitaya pot planting generally has two methods: one is growing from pitaya seeds, and the other is growing from pitaya seedlings by cuttings. Different planting methods have different operating processes.

1. Growing from Pitaya Seeds

This method is relatively more complicated, because the time consumed in the process is relatively long. The specific operating process is as follows:

① Cut open the pitaya bought home and peel off the skin, take out the fresh flesh inside, and place it in clean water to soak for about one day.

② Put the soaked pitaya seeds into gauze, rub repeatedly with your hands, and try to separate the flesh from the seeds as much as possible. Then put these flesh and seeds into clean water to wash, scoop out the excess flesh, and keep the seeds.

③ Sprinkle clean water on the prepared flower pot, then plant the seeds into the soil, seal it up in a plastic bag, and after about 2 or 3 days the seeds will sprout and then slowly grow. Once the plant grows bigger and bigger, transplant it.

2. Growing from Pitaya Seedlings by Cuttings

Compared with growing from seeds, this method has a higher survival rate, because the plant has already grown for some time and its vitality is a bit stronger, so more people prefer this planting method. Its specific process is as follows:

① Put some small stones of different sizes into the prepared flower pot, then put in an appropriate amount of soil to make the culture medium.

② Plant the bought pitaya seedlings into the soil, and note that the seedling roots should be spread out inside the soil, so that they can survive better. Then gently press the soil around the plant with your hands or other auxiliary tools.

③ Water it, not too much, just water it thoroughly; too much will damage the plant roots. Then place this potted pitaya in a cool and ventilated place indoors. After about a week the plant will survive and grow leaves, then put it on the balcony to grow. In daily care, pay attention to watering and fertilizing.

Summary: Pitaya is a plant with relatively strong vitality, so its planting method is relatively simple and everyone can handle it well. Therefore, there is no need to worry about pot planting pitaya; just take it one step at a time and follow the instructions.
