Introduction to Indoor Aquatic Plants

Growing some aquatic plants at home is very cultivating for the spirit, clean and hygienic, and very beautiful. Here is an introduction for you.

Hyacinth

There are many indoor aquatic ornamental plants, and hyacinth is one of them. Hyacinth, also known as Dutch narcissus, belongs to the genus Hyacinthus in the family Liliaceae, and is a perennial herb. The bulb is spherical or flattened-spherical, covered outside with a tunic that is purplish-blue or white, etc. The flower stem emerges from the center of the leaf stem, forming a raceme; the flowers are delicate and lovely, colorful, dazzlingly beautiful, and pleasantly fragrant. It likes a sunny, cool and moist environment, and is suitable for both potting and water culture. If you want to grow it in water, place its bulb in a hydroponic nutrient solution.

Evergreen

Many people do not know that evergreen is also a type of aquatic ornamental plant. Evergreen is a plant in the family Liliaceae, with thick leathery basal leaves that are oblanceolate, broadly lanceolate, or broadly band-shaped; the terminal spadix is oblong, with densely arranged, sessile, pale yellow, hemispherical flowers. It has a rich variety of cultivars, including green-leaved and variegated types, and is an ornamental flower variety with strong adaptability, usually grown in pots for ornamental purposes. In recent years, more and more water-grown cultivars have appeared, which are not only highly ornamental but can also effectively clean indoor air pollution.

Lucky Bamboo

An evergreen erect shrub in the genus Dracaena of the family Liliaceae, very suitable for indoor water-grown flowers. The leaves of lucky bamboo are emerald green, and the stems are straight and round like bamboo. The leaves are ovate with pointed tips, and the leaf stalk base clasps the stem. It is an extremely shade-tolerant plant and still grows well, upright and strong, under low-light conditions. It can be placed indoors for a long time for its foliage and does not need special care; as long as there is enough water, it can grow vigorously. When growing it in water, cut the lucky bamboo stems into small sections of more than 20 cm as cuttings and insert them in water; as long as 1/3 of the cutting can be submerged in water, it will take root and survive.

Spider Plant

A perennial evergreen herbaceous flower in the family Liliaceae, with clustered, linear leaves that have longitudinal yellow-white stripes along the edges or in the middle. In summer and autumn, slender, flexible, drooping runners emerge from between the leaves, and young leaves and aerial roots sprout at the tips or nodes, producing white flowers. Spider plant can be grown indoors in water; it not only purifies the air but is also attractive in appearance and easy to manage. Dig out a potted spider plant, remove the soil from the roots, cut off old roots and rotten roots, keep the fibrous roots, put it into a container or bottle, add clean water and flower nutrient solution to the bottle, and let the spider plant roots grow submerged in the water.

Pothos

A plant in the genus Philodendron of the family Araceae, belonging to climbing vine foliage flowers. It likes a warm, humid environment. The vine can reach several meters long, with aerial roots at the nodes. The leaves grow larger and larger, are alternate, and evergreen. The pothos stems are slender and soft, and the leaves are delicate and elegant. Water culture is very simple: ensure the water is changed once every 2 to 3 days, along with a simple nutrient solution. Pothos has high ornamental value; its trailing stems hang down naturally, and it can both purify the air and make full use of space, adding lively lines and bright colors to a dull cabinet surface.

Ivy

In the family Araliaceae, genus Hedera, it is the most ideal variety for indoor and outdoor vertical greening. It is an evergreen vine with slender, soft branches and aerial roots that can climb onto other objects. The leaves are alternate and triangular-ovate in shape, and the demand for potted plants is increasing day by day. It is a typical shade plant that can grow in a full-light environment and grows well under warm and humid climatic conditions, but is not cold-tolerant. Water culture is simple, and its vitality is strong.
