How do you grow spider plants well? Remember these 5 care essentials
The spider plant is a plant that can be kept indoors long term, improves indoor air, and also has ornamental value. It also has the elegant name "air flower," and many people in daily life like to grow spider plants. But growing spider plants well is not an easy thing. How do you grow spider plants well in ordinary care?
Temperature: Spider plants like warm weather and are suited to growing at around 20 degrees. In winter, pay attention to cold protection and move them indoors. Never place them in a windy spot by a window, to avoid freezing the leaves. If the temperature is too low, the spider plant will stop growing, and if it is below 5 degrees, frost damage may occur.
Light: Although spider plants prefer shade and coolness, they still need to be given enough sunlight so the plant can carry out photosynthesis, which promotes normal growth. When light is insufficient, the leaves will turn yellow; when light is too strong, the leaves will also turn withered yellow and may even die. In spring and autumn, they can be placed in a cool place that can receive sunlight. In summer, direct sunlight should be prevented, and more than 60% of the sunlight needs to be blocked.
Soil: To plant spider plants, choose soil with good drainage and good air permeability. You can choose leaf mold, peat soil, garden soil, river sand, etc. mixed together as the growing medium. For example, you can put some water-permeable expanded clay pebbles at the bottom of the pot, about 4 cm thick, then place the plant in the center of the pot, add the mixed soil until the pot is seven or eight tenths full, press the soil firm with your hands, and then cover the surface with a layer of expanded clay pebbles.
Watering: Spider plants prefer moisture, especially during the summer growing season, when they need to be watered once a day and the leaves sprayed with water 2 times. In spring and autumn, they can be watered once every 5 days. Because spider plants are afraid of cold, they should not be watered too much in winter, to avoid cold damage; once every half month is enough.
Pest and disease prevention: Spider plants sometimes develop some scale insects, whiteflies, etc. If found, pests should be removed promptly. When the front of the leaves is found to be turning yellow, watering and fertilizing should be strengthened.
Fertilizing: Spider plants quite like fertilizer. Except in winter, they can be fertilized once every 10 days. The fertilizer can be organic fertilizer liquid or fertilizer specifically for spider plants; both are sold at flower markets. When the temperature is below 5 degrees, fertilizing should be stopped.
How do you grow spider plants well? These are mainly the aspects to pay attention to when growing spider plants: regular watering, fertilizing, grooming, and so on. If they are given a specific environment in which to grow, then spider plants will certainly be able to grow very quickly and better decorate the indoor home environment.
