How to grow spider plant in water: daily care tips for hydroponic spider plant
Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) is a plant that grows fairly fast and can become lush and leafy, and many people like to grow it at home. Sunlight on plants promotes photosynthesis and thus better growth, but some people are not sure whether pothos can take it. So, can pothos be put in the sun?
First, let's look at the growing habits of pothos: pothos likes warm, humid environments and requires loose, fertile, well-drained soil. Potted pothos should use fertile, loose, well-drained leaf mold soil, preferably slightly acidic. Pothos is extremely shade-tolerant and can be kept in a sunny spot indoors all year round; in a dim room, it should be moved every half month to a bright environment to recover for a while, otherwise the internodes tend to lengthen and the leaves become smaller.
Pothos likes hot and humid environments, and the overwintering temperature should not be lower than 15°C. The potting soil should be kept moist, and the leaves should be sprayed with water frequently to raise air humidity and favor the growth of aerial roots. During the vigorous growth period, a liquid fertilizer can be applied once a month. For plants kept indoors for viewing over a long time, the leaves at the base of the stems tend to drop, reducing their ornamental value; in May and June when the temperature turns warmer, pruning and renewal can be done together with cuttings to encourage new shoots to sprout from the base of the stems.
With this understood, the doubt is cleared up. Diffused sunlight can make pothos more green and lush, but avoid harsh direct sunlight.
Notes on growing pothos
1. In summer, by no means expose pothos to direct sunlight, otherwise it will be scorched; in winter it can be brought out appropriately to bask in the sun. In spring and autumn, give it appropriate light in the morning and afternoon.
2. The principle for watering pothos is to water less in winter and appropriately in summer; waterlogging is not acceptable, and the soil should be moist.
3. Like lucky bamboo, pothos is actually very easy to keep alive, especially when propagated by cuttings; and unlike pomegranate flowers and snake plant (Sansevieria), as long as it gets through winter, it can grow in the other three seasons, so in winter it needs to be kept warm and must not be frozen to death.
Can pothos be put in the sun? Pothos can be taken out in the sun, but it must not be exposed to direct sunlight, especially when the sun is harsh at noon, and it must not be placed in the sun to be exposed, otherwise it is easy to make pothos wilt and prevent it from growing normally.
