How to Grow Pothos in Water? A Full Guide to Cultivation Techniques
Compared with soil-grown plants, hydroponic plants have the advantage of being clean and tidy, especially when placed indoors, since watering will not cause surrounding furniture and other items to be soiled by water and mud. For moisture-loving plants like pothos, hydroponic cultivation is even more labor-saving. Therefore, this article briefly introduces how to grow pothos in water.
For growing pothos in water, you can use the method of rooting terminal buds in water: cut a tender, sturdy stem segment 20-30 cm long and insert it directly into a bottle filled with clean water, changing the water once every 2-3 days; in a little over 10 days it can take root and survive. During this process, the following points need to be followed:
1. Choosing the water quality
Choosing the right water quality is very important for growing pothos in water. You can choose clean tap water or purified water to grow pothos.
2. Change the water frequently
When growing pothos in water, be sure to change the water frequently; remember to change it once every two to three days. This is because pothos has very high requirements for water quality. After the pothos grows new roots, remember to add nutrient solution to the pothos; only in this way can the pothos leaves be more glossy.
3. Suitable temperature
In the north, pothos can safely overwinter when the indoor temperature is above 10°C, and can grow normally when the indoor temperature is above 20°C. Generally, reaching this temperature at home is not a big problem; note that you need to avoid excessive temperature differences, and also be careful not to let the leaves get close to heating equipment.
4. Root trimming work
The roots of pothos need to be cleaned at intervals. After the root system grows long, the roots need to be trimmed; if there are rotten roots, cut them off so that the pothos can absorb nutrients better.
5. Spray water on the pothos regularly
Pothos likes a warm and humid environment, so pay attention: spray water on the pothos leaves regularly to increase humidity. In this way, it not only benefits the growth of the pothos, but also helps clean the leaves.
6. An appropriate amount of light
Every morning, you can place the pothos on a balcony or in a bright spot to supplement its light and carry out photosynthesis; only sufficient scattered light can make the leaves spread out and the leaf color stay emerald green.
Growing pothos in water has one more step than soil cultivation: trimming the roots. This is not only necessary for the normal growth of the pothos, but also an effective means of enhancing the pothos's ornamental value.
