Master pothos care methods and add a touch of green to your life
Nowadays city residents increasingly love a life close to nature, so they often place some green plants at home. Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) can not only decorate the home but also purify indoor air, making it a very good houseplant. So how should pothos be cared for? Below, the editor will introduce pothos care methods to add green to your life.
Pothos care methods:
1. Light: Pothos is a shade-loving plant. It should not be exposed to direct sunlight; it likes scattered light and is fairly shade-tolerant. When grown indoors, it can be placed beside a window, but direct sunlight must be avoided. Too strong sunlight will scorch the leaves of pothos, while too much shade will make the beautiful patterns on the leaf surface disappear. In the autumn and winter seasons in the north, pothos should be placed in a spot indoors with good light, or moved at noon to a sealed balcony to bask in the sun; only then can pothos grow well.
2. Water: Pothos likes a moist environment. In midsummer, the peak growth period for pothos, the potting soil is best kept moist; when the potting soil is found to have turned white, it can be watered thoroughly. At the same time, the leaf surface of pothos can be misted several times a day to wash away dust from the leaves, which helps pothos breathe and makes the leaves grow even more emerald green and verdant. In winter, when room temperature is lower, pothos is in a dormant state, so watering should be reduced, and it is enough to keep the potting soil from drying out.
3. Temperature: The most suitable growth temperature for pothos is 20°C-28°C. In winter, as long as the indoor temperature is not lower than 10°C, pothos can safely overwinter; if the temperature is lower than 5°C, leaf drop is likely to occur and growth will be affected. It should be noted that excessively large temperature differences should be avoided, and also take care that the leaves do not get close to heating equipment. In winter, special attention should be paid to this: when opening a window, pothos should be moved away from beside the window, because in a very short time the leaves may be frostbitten.
4. Soil: For pothos, loose, organic-rich slightly acidic and neutral sandy loam soil is best. It can be made by mixing and composting 70% leaf mold, 20% red loam soil, and 10% rapeseed cake and bone meal. Repot once every three years.
5. Fertilizer: Mainly nitrogen fertilizer, supplemented by potassium fertilizer. Before the arrival of the spring growth period for pothos, apply a 0.3% solution of ammonium sulfate or urea once about every 10 days, and use a 0.5‰-1‰ urea solution for one foliar feeding; this can both meet the growth needs of pothos and keep the leaves green and shiny. In winter, fertilization should be stopped or only a small amount of foliar spray fertilizer should be applied.
Pothos is a potted plant that is very easy to grow. As long as everyone pays a little more attention in daily care, I believe you can certainly grow beautiful and lush pothos.
