How to grow pothos and what the growing tips are

Every time you see someone else's pothos growing lush and green, do you also wonder: why is mine always half dead? It must be a problem with the growing method, so how exactly should you grow pothos? Below we will learn together how to grow pothos and what the growing tips are.

In order to grow the pothos at home well, I specifically looked up information online about how to grow pothos, so let us learn together below about how to grow pothos.

1. Soil: The soil should be loose, fertile and well drained. Potted pothos should use fertile, loose, well-drained leaf mold, preferably slightly acidic.

2. Temperature: Pothos is not cold tolerant. The suitable growing temperature is 14°C-18°C at night and 21°C-27°C during the day. In winter, protect it from the cold, and the room temperature should stay above 10°C for overwintering. Open windows less when temperatures are low, so the leaves do not get frostbitten.

3. Light: Pothos is extremely shade tolerant and can be placed in a sunny spot indoors all year round. In a dimmer room, it should be moved every half month to a brighter environment for a period of recovery, otherwise the internodes tend to lengthen and the leaves become smaller. In low temperatures in autumn and winter, place the pothos in the brightest spot indoors, or move it to a sealed balcony at noon to get sunlight.

4. Water: Pothos likes plenty of water and should be watered more than ordinary flowers, but it must not become waterlogged, and the tray should be kept clean and drained. Water every 2-3 days. Clean the leaf surfaces and the soil surface in time, and spray the leaves with water every day. This is especially necessary in hot summer. The potting soil should stay moist, and the leaves should be sprayed often to raise air humidity, which helps aerial roots grow.

5. Fertilizer: Mainly nitrogen fertilizer, supplemented with phosphorus and potassium fertilizer; if a 0.5%-1% urea solution is sprayed on the leaves, the green leaves will be even more verdant, and fertilizer should be applied lightly and often. During the vigorous growth period, apply liquid fertilizer once a month.

6. Propagation: In spring and summer, cuttings taken from stems root easily; for a totem pole, cuttings must be taken from the top with large leaves, so that it takes shape relatively quickly. Pothos can also be grown in water, but the plant is smaller than when grown in soil.

7. Pruning: Plant 4-5 plants per pot, or insert cuttings directly, and set up a moss pole in the middle of the pot so the pothos can twine and grow upward. Shaping and pruning are done in spring. When the stems and vines have covered the moss pole and the tips extend about 20 cm beyond the moss pole, cut off 40 cm of the stem tips of 2-3 of the plants. After the cut back sprouts new buds and new leaves, cut off the stem tips of the remaining plants.

The above are the methods for how to grow pothos. So, have you learned them? Follow this method to grow your own pothos well and add a touch of green to your home.
