Can Pothos Be Put in the Sun? How to Grow It Better

Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) is a beautiful, elegant plant with outstanding air-purifying abilities. Placing a few pots at home not only purifies the air but is also a delight to the eye. However, for friends with no experience growing pothos, some difficulties may come up along the way, such as whether pothos prefers shade or sun, whether pothos can be put in the sun, and how to grow it better.

Pothos-growing experts say that pothos can be put in the sun, but you need to choose the right time slot. With the current temperature around 20°C and good weather, you can put it on the balcony at night, and from sunrise the next day let it sunbathe until 8 to 9 in the morning, or from after 4 in the afternoon until sunset. The main thing is to avoid the time slot when the sunlight is strongest each day. Seeing sunlight once or twice a week like this is enough; do not sun it every day. Most of the time, just keep it in a well-ventilated place with good scattered light. In addition, spraying the leaf surface with water 1 to 2 times a day is good for pothos growth!

If you want to care for pothos well, you should also learn some growing methods:

1. Soil choice: Pothos is better suited to slightly acidic soil. The basic requirements for the chosen soil are loose texture, good drainage, and rich humus.

2. Temperature control: Because pothos originates from tropical rainforests, it likes warmth. It generally grows well at around 25°C. In summer it is generally not afraid of high temperatures; it just needs to be placed in a shady spot. Winter is a harder time for pothos. It is recommended to place it somewhere with indoor warmth; a temperature of around 15°C can ensure its daily growth, and the leaves will stay green. But below that, growth stalls, and yellowing leaves and leaf drop may occur.

3. Light adjustment: Pothos prefers shade, but that does not mean it needs no sunlight at all. In daily care, it is best to place it somewhere it can receive scattered light, so its chlorophyll can increase better and photosynthesis can do its work, making it more attractive.

4. Water needs: To grow pothos, you only need to keep the soil moist; there is no need to water too much. In daily care, just water the roots lightly to keep them slightly moist. In summer, water a little more appropriately, and water the leaves a little too. In winter, water less, and do not overdo it, especially when the temperature is low. For hydroponic pothos, in summer you can appropriately water the leaves a small amount.

5. Fertilizer application: There are many special fertilizers for pothos on the market. If you mix your own, then add less inorganic fertilizer. The usual fertilization season is summer, which can promote growth.

Putting pothos in the sun can keep it green, so pothos can be put in the sun, but pothos cannot be exposed to strong sunlight for long periods, and the time slot for sun exposure must also be controlled well.
