How to water cyclamen? Correct watering methods and precautions
Regarding how to water cyclamen, we should first understand some basic knowledge. Nutrient uptake and transport, water transpiration and photosynthesis, and the relationship between sink and source in cyclamen all rely on water to function. Under normal circumstances, water accounts for more than 80% of the plant's weight. Because the root microenvironment of potted plants is limited by the pot, water content becomes the main factor in cultivation, so the amount and frequency of watering are crucial.
How to water cyclamen: first look at the soil, second look at the environment
1. Look at the soil: the amount of water given to cyclamen is directly related to the permeability of the growing medium. In a medium with strong water retention, the water content in the cells of cyclamen is high, and growth will show excessive, weak, spindly growth. Severe waterlogging can cause oxygen deficiency, which both inhibits plant growth and hinders root growth, forming reverse osmosis. Under water stress, the leaves droop, transpiration weakens, roots stop growing, and the roots gradually die.
2. Look at the environment: the amount of water given is directly related to the environment. When ventilation is poor and the temperature is low, transpiration is low, and the medium's moisture is retained longer, so watering should be controlled or not done at all. Conversely, when the air is dry and the temperature is high, transpiration is high, so the amount and frequency of watering should be increased. Especially in winter when there is indoor heating, do not place it near the radiator. Generally, when the temperature is high during the day and the medium surface is not dry while the plant is slightly wilted, and it returns to normal at night, do not water; otherwise, water it. Remember that too much water can also cause wilting.
ps: Cyclamen is very prone to root and stem rot due to overwatering. The above two points are actually the most core experience. As long as flower lovers remember that cyclamen would rather be a bit dry than a bit waterlogged, if the potting soil does not hold water and the weather is good, you can water more frequently; otherwise, water less.
