When is the best time to plant hyacinths?
Autumn has arrived, and it is once again time to get hyacinths. Quite a few flower growers ask when is the right time to start growing hyacinths, because different sellers offer them at different times, and on top of the differences between the north and south regions, many flower growers are unsure about when to start growing hyacinths. This is normal, so this article will explain the planting time for hyacinths to flower growers.
Normally, hyacinths gradually go on sale from late September to early October. At this time, flower growers in the northern regions can plant them, and the flowering time is roughly around the end of January the following year. If planted a little later, they can be timed to bloom at Spring Festival. For flower growers in the southern regions, because the average temperature is still relatively high, it is not suitable to plant them right away at this time. It is best to delay a little, with mid-October as a reference point, and delay appropriately.
Some flower growers also do not know when is suitable for water-cultured hyacinths. Water culture and soil planting are the same in terms of planting time, and there is nothing special to consider.
Below we will briefly discuss some key points about growing hyacinths:
Hyacinths are recognized among flower growers as a beginner's flower: easy to grow and rewarding. But even so, some flower growers run into various problems, most commonly rot and mold. Based on the editor's years of experience growing hyacinths, the main reason these situations occur is that the potting soil is too wet; in the case of water culture, it is because the bulb is in contact with water for a long time, or because water splashes onto the center of the bulb when watering.
So if planting in soil, the potting soil should rather be dry than wet for a long time. Even if there is a little mold, as long as the potting soil and air are dry, it will heal naturally. On the contrary, if you cannot control your hands and water every few days, then the situation will not be optimistic.
For water culture, the water level must not be too high. After roots have formed, the water level only needs to be about 1 cm away from the root plate. When watering, be sure not to splash water onto the center of the bulb.
