Cultivation methods for the auspicious "peace lily"

Green plants have gradually become a way for people to beautify their environment and purify the air, but some are also grown for their auspicious meanings, just like the peace lily. Many families place a pot of "peace lily" in their homes, symbolizing that work and life should be "plain sailing," but some friends are not familiar with how to care for the peace lily and what to pay attention to. Today, the editor will give you a simple introduction.

Introduction to the "peace lily"

The "peace lily," also known as white sail, white crane taro, bract-leaf taro, and peace taro, is called "peace lily" among the people because of its auspicious meaning. It is often used for indoor greening and decorative display, but few people know the cultivation methods and precautions for the peace lily. Below, the editor will introduce the cultivation methods and precautions for the peace lily in detail.

Cultivation methods for the peace lily

1. The peace lily is relatively shade-tolerant. As long as there is about 60% scattered light, it can meet its growth needs, so it can be grown year-round indoors in a spot with bright scattered light. In summer, 60%-70% of sunlight can be blocked. It should avoid direct strong light, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow, and in severe cases, sunscald will occur. In northern winter greenhouse cultivation, no shading or little shading is needed. If the light is too dark for a long time, it will be difficult to bloom. The peace lily is a high-temperature-loving species and should be cultivated in a high-temperature greenhouse. The minimum nighttime temperature in winter should be 14-16°C, and the daytime temperature should be around 25°C. Long-term low temperatures easily cause leaf drop or scorched-yellow conditions.

2. During the growing period, the potting soil should be kept moist frequently, but avoid overwatering. If the potting soil stays wet for a long time, it easily causes root rot and the plant to wither and yellow. In summer and dry seasons, frequently spray water on the leaf surface with a fine-nozzle sprayer, and also sprinkle water on the ground around the plant to keep the air moist, which is very beneficial to its growth and development. When the climate is dry and air humidity is low, new leaves will become smaller and yellow, and in severe cases wither, yellow, and fall off. In winter, watering should be controlled, and it is suitable for the potting soil to be slightly moist.

3. Potted peace lilies require loose soil with good drainage and aeration. Heavy clay soil must not be used. Generally, a substrate can be made by mixing leaf mold, peat soil, and a small amount of perlite; when planting, add a small amount of organic fertilizer as base fertilizer. Because of its fast growth rate and relatively high fertilizer demand, liquid fertilizer must be applied once every 1-2 weeks during the growing season; at the same time, provide sufficient water and keep the potting soil moist frequently. During high-temperature periods, water should also be sprayed on the leaves and ground to increase air humidity. If the surrounding environment is too dry, new leaves will become smaller and yellow, and in severe cases wither, yellow, and fall off. In late autumn and winter, watering should be reduced, and keeping the potting soil slightly moist is sufficient. It requires semi-shade or scattered light conditions, and during the growing season it must be shaded 60%-70%. If the light is too strong, the leaves are easily scorched and withered, and the leaf color becomes dull and loses its luster; if the light is too dark for a long time, the plant grows weakly and does not bloom easily. The peace lily is a high-temperature-loving species. Long-term low temperature and moisture easily cause root rot and yellowing of the aboveground parts, so in winter pay attention to cold protection and warmth retention while keeping the potting soil moist.

I wonder whether you also have such a pot of the auspicious "peace lily" at home. The cultivation method may seem difficult to carry out, but the most important thing is your patience and care. Growing plants at home can not only beautify the environment but also purify the air.
