Can spider plants purify the air? The evergreen elf that absorbs formaldehyde

As people's living standards rise, increasingly luxurious interior renovations inevitably bring with them higher emissions of carbon dioxide, formaldehyde and other waste gases, so that nature's own purifying capacity is no longer enough to purify indoor air. That is why many people have started growing green plants such as spider plants. But can spider plants purify the air?

Spider plants not only resemble orchids in form and stay fresh and green all year round, but also possess a powerful ability to absorb pollutants.

Spider plants can absorb and purify all the harmful gases in a test container within 24 hours. With just one pot of spider plant in a bedroom, within a single day it can absorb harmful gases such as carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides released by indoor appliances, stoves, plastic products and paints, transport them to its roots, and then, through microorganisms in the soil, break them down into harmless substances that are absorbed as nutrients.

In its own metabolism, the spider plant can also convert carcinogenic formaldehyde in the air into substances such as sugars and amino acids. It can also break down benzene emitted by photocopiers and printers, and can even "devour" nicotine and more.

In a room of about 10 sq m, just one pot of spider plant is equivalent to installing an air purifier, enough to offset the negative effects of harmful gases. Scientists also placed several pots of spider plants in a closed environment like the sealed cabin of a space shuttle, and after 12 hours measured that harmful gases such as carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide and formaldehyde in the cabin had decreased by 85%.

It can be seen that spider plants, as a houseplant, can purify indoor air. Through their own metabolism, they absorb harmful substances from the air, allowing friends to stay at home away from the harm of renovation chemicals, so that friends who step through the door feel as if they have entered another world full of fresh air.
