Reasons and Solutions for Yellowing and Withering Spider Plant Leaf Tips
In the scorching summer, a lush spider plant growing on the balcony blocks much of the harsh, high-temperature sunlight, carries out photosynthesis, and produces more oxygen. That is why the spider plant is a plant many friends choose to decorate their balconies with. But a plant is still a plant, and once it is not cared for well, the phenomenon of withered spider plant leaf tips becomes very common.
There are many reasons spider plants develop yellow leaves; some are caused by a single reason, and some by multiple reasons. During care, you must observe carefully and analyze the cause so that you can prevent and treat it in a targeted way.
1. Water-yellow
Leaf yellowing caused by long-term watering shows as young leaves turning yellow in the sun with no luster, while old leaves show no obvious change; the roots are small, yellow-green, and new shoots shrink and stop growing. At this point, watering should be restrained; in severe cases, the plant can be taken out of the pot, placed in a shady spot to let the soil dry, and then repotted.
2. Drought-yellow
Leaf yellowing caused by lack of water or too little watering. Old leaves wither, yellow, and fall off from the bottom upward, but new leaves generally still grow normally. At this point, the amount and frequency of watering should be appropriately increased.
3. Fertilizer-yellow
Due to too much fertilizer or too high a concentration, the tips of new leaves appear dry and brown, and the tips of old leaves dry, scorch, yellow, and fall off. Generally, although the leaf surface is thick and glossy, most of it is uneven. Therefore, fertilization should be stopped or the fertilizer should be rinsed out with clean water.
4. Nutrient-deficiency-yellow
If potted flowers are given only water and no fertilizer for a long time, or are not repotted for many years, the roots become tangled into a ball, and the plant cannot get nutrients, causing the leaves to turn yellow. Therefore, in addition to repotting in time, fertilizer should usually be applied lightly and frequently.
There are many reasons spider plant leaf tips turn yellow and wither. Friends who are growing spider plants should observe more and care for the potted plants on their balconies with attention, so that the spider plants can play their greatest role.
