Brown spots on money tree leaves: be careful to distinguish leaf blight from leaf spot disease

When brown spots appear on money tree leaves, this not only affects the tree's appearance but is also very likely to affect its growth. However, brown spots alone may not be enough to accurately determine which disease the money tree has. This article takes brown spots on money tree leaves as its starting point and briefly introduces two diseases of the money tree and their control methods.

Leaf blight and leaf spot disease are common diseases of the money tree.

I. Leaf blight

Disease symptoms

In the early stage, dark brown spots form, with gray or dark brown sunscald-like lesions inside; on long-standing lesions, black powder can be seen.

Control methods

1. Remove diseased leaves promptly when found, and destroy them.

2. Strengthen care and management, water and fertilize in a timely manner; in each growing season, apply 2 to 3 foliar fertilizer applications, such as 0.5% monopotassium phosphate or 200-fold diluted double-effect micro-fertilizer.

3. Prevention. When cultivating money trees in southern regions, start timely prevention from the beginning of the rainy season, spraying every 10-15 days with 50% carbendazim 800-fold dilution, or 70% chlorothalonil 800-fold dilution, or 75% thiophanate-methyl 1500-fold dilution.

4. In the early stage of disease, spray for control with 75% chlorothalonil wettable powder 800-fold dilution, or 50% tuijunte wettable powder 600-fold dilution, or 50% carbendazim wettable powder 800-fold dilution, or 75% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder 1500-fold dilution.

II. Leaf spot disease

Disease symptoms

This disease causes leaf scorch and is an important leaf disease. It affects growth and ornamental value. In the early stage, small brown spots appear on leaf margins or tips, and after expanding they become irregular lesions, dark brown; in the late stage, the lesions are gray or grayish brown, with the lesion margin being a dark brown line, and the area around the lesion may or may not have yellow discoloration. Large lesions appear papery. Under humid conditions, a small number of black dots form on the diseased area.

Treatment methods

In the early stage of disease, spray with new high-lipid film + 65% aikojun wettable powder or 50% thiophanate-methyl, sulfur suspension 800-fold dilution, 30% basic copper sulfate suspension 400-fold dilution, 75% Daconil wettable powder 700-fold dilution, etc. Once every 7-10 days.

Whether it is leaf blight or leaf spot disease, brown lesions appear on the leaves. Therefore, when brown spots appear on money tree leaves, it is necessary to distinguish the different diseases before control so that the right remedy can be applied and the disease cured.
