How to grow daisies in pots? Learn these steps to grow them easily
Steps for potting daisies
Stage 1: Plug tray seedling raising
Germination begins when the radicle penetrates its seed coat, and the first stage runs from the young root entering the soil to the emergence of the cotyledons. The temperature should be kept at 18°C. Keep the growing medium moist; the seeds like sunlight and warmth, so covering with soil is not necessary, but direct sunlight should be avoided, and the medium must never be allowed to dry out. During this stage, keep the pH between 5.5 and 6.2, with a relative humidity of 100%. After sowing in the tray, shade it appropriately.
Stage 2: Cotyledon emergence and growth
From the cotyledons gradually growing true leaves, the second stage begins. Still keep the room temperature at 18°C. Keep the medium humidity between 70%-80%; of course, it still must not be too dry, and the growth of the cotyledons requires the roots to penetrate the medium and absorb nutrients to complete. The first two stages together take 2-3 weeks.
Cotyledon emergence and growth
Stage 3: True leaf growth and development
From the emergence of true leaves until 80% of the seedlings are at this stage is the third stage. The room temperature can be lowered appropriately to about 15°C. As the temperature drops, humidity should also decrease accordingly; the interval between two waterings can be longer, watering only after the medium dries out, thus forming a wet-dry cycle, which is good for root growth and development.
Daisy hardening off
Stage 4: Hardening off
At this stage the root system has already formed well, and the seedlings become cold-resistant through hardening off, lasting about one week. Temperature, humidity and fertilization are basically the same as in the previous stage. They need to be transplanted into pots in time. The last two stages take about 1-2 weeks to complete.
Notes on potting daisies
1. A cool potting environment can make the plants more compact.
2. In winter, high humidity in the pot causes the leaves to become damp, which triggers gray mold. Pot humidity should be kept appropriate.
3. Daisies grow in basal leaf clusters, so ventilation must be maintained to prevent rot at the base.
