How to care for a money tree? A detailed guide to care methods for all four seasons
The money tree has an elegant form and stays evergreen all year round, making it an outstanding ornamental plant; a small pot at home carries the beautiful wish of "bringing in wealth." To make that wish come true, you still need to learn how to tend the money tree. Today I will teach you the care methods to keep the money tree evergreen through all four seasons!
Money tree care methods in spring
Plenty of light
Spring is the peak growing season for young money trees, so you must ensure sufficient light and a supply of water and fertilizer. When the outdoor temperature stays steadily above 15°C, you can decide whether to repot based on its growth, and move the potted plant to a semi-shaded spot on the balcony or a bright indoor spot for care. After the temperature rises in late spring, move the plant to a spot with light in the morning and evening for care.
Supplemental watering
Normally water alternately between dry and wet, keep the soil moist, and spray water frequently to increase air humidity.
Fertilizing
Reduce fertilizing in spring, or even skip fertilizing entirely. If you notice the leaves turning yellow, apply foliar fertilizer promptly; spray the leaves with a 500-fold urea solution 1-2 times to supplement nutrients.
Money tree care methods in summer
Shading and watering
The money tree likes high temperatures but cannot tolerate intense sun. In summer's high temperatures, place the plant in a semi-shaded spot for care, and water promptly to keep the soil moist, spraying appropriately to increase air humidity. Stop fertilizing during the high-temperature season.
Propagating at the right time
June to July is the best season for propagating the money tree; you can use the cutting propagation method, selecting current-year branches 10-15 cm long, keeping 2-3 leaves at the top, and inserting them into the soil; they will take root and become seedlings in about 30 days.
Money tree care methods in autumn
In autumn, ensure the plant gets sufficient light and timely water and fertilizer. When the temperature drops, move the plant to a bright indoor spot for care. Autumn care is fairly similar to spring care; for specific care details, refer to the spring care methods.
Money tree care methods in winter
Temperature
The money tree is not cold-tolerant; it can only survive the winter safely when the winter temperature is above 11°C. If it drops below 5°C, the plant will suffer cold damage and easily drop its leaves.
Light and water
In winter, ensure sufficient light; if there are continuous overcast days, you can supplement light artificially. When the temperature is higher at noon, spray around the plant to increase air humidity. Adult plants need controlled watering, watering only when the soil is dry, but you should frequently sprinkle water on the leaves.
