Cyclamen summer care methods to help it survive the summer safely
Summer care for cyclamen is the biggest technical challenge in cultivation. From June to September in summer, the high-temperature season begins. At this time, cyclamen easily enters dormancy, its stress resistance weakens greatly, and pests and diseases break out frequently. Therefore, the success or failure of summer care directly affects how well cyclamen grows.
In summer, the plant's stress resistance weakens sharply, mainly shown in the following points:
Potted cyclamen
I. Frequent outbreaks of pests and diseases
1. Bacterial☆☆diseases
2. Anthracnose
3. Vascular bundle diseases
Pests and diseases of cyclamen
II. Decreased salt and drought tolerance
In summer, temperatures are high. Right after applying fertilizer suitable for cyclamen growth, because the plant loses a large amount of water at noon, the EC value in the soil rises sharply and soon exceeds the maximum tolerance value, thereby causing great harm to cyclamen. Therefore, during the summer, the fertilizer concentration can be halved, but the fertilization frequency can be doubled.
Countermeasures for cyclamen in summer
Create a suitable growing environment
Considering the growth environment of cyclamen, most wild cyclamen grow in the shade of trees in the mountains, on semi-shaded slopes. Therefore, it is best to create a good living environment for it.
Generally, temperatures above 30°C and light above 40,000 LUX will harm cyclamen.
Appropriate shading
For shading, it is enough to pull over two layers of shade netting, but when the light is not strong, it must be pulled open promptly, which helps cool the ground and improve ventilation. When shading, it must not be too dark, otherwise cyclamen tends to grow leggy and its resistance weakens.
Spray cooling
There are many ways to cool down, and this is one of them, but the shade netting must be kept at a certain height from the plastic film and must not be laid directly on it. In addition, fine mist and rain sprinkling are also excellent methods.
However, the negative effects brought by cooling through water evaporation cannot be ignored. The continuous increase of air humidity in the greenhouse makes cyclamen face the threat of disease outbreaks, so strengthening ventilation and doing a good job in pest and disease control is especially important.
