Pest and Disease Control for Ginger Lily

Ginger lily is a natural air purifier placed indoors, producing dazzling and eye-catching flowers. If such a beautiful flower is afflicted by pests and diseases, it would be such a sad thing for flower lovers. Below, we begin to explain the pest and disease control for ginger lily.

Pest and Disease Control for Ginger Lily

Bacterial scab, rot

When many pale yellow circular lesions appear on the corms, bacterial scab should be considered. The lesions eventually turn brown, with raised edges and sunken centers, and a gummy substance gradually exudes from the spots. As the disease progresses, the rhizomes gradually rot and the leaves wither. They should be discarded promptly and the slightly affected corms should be handled to prevent spread.

Leaf spot

When fungal leaf spot occurs, distinctive irregular spots will appear on the leaves. The lesions are the size of a cake of fertilizer, merging together, dark brown with a hint of gray. The disease often occurs on the upper half of the leaf tip. Bordeaux mixture at the specified dosage can be sprayed for control, and the affected leaves should be burned promptly.

Fungal wilt

Its initial symptoms are yellowing leaves that wilt and dry up until death, with the dead leaves appearing yellow or white. It is caused by fungal infection of the corms. The corm surface has yellow-brown spots, with dark brown appearing in the central area. This disease can be prevented by soaking with benomyl for about 15-30 minutes, applying medicinal treatment, and then drying the corms.

Dry rot

It is a fungal disease type. Countless hard black sclerotia appear at the base of the leaves or on the outer skin of the corms. The lesions are circular and usually sunken. Do not store corms in cold, damp environments, otherwise dry rot will occur, and the affected corms will eventually become rigid and turn black.

Mosaic virus

It is an iris mosaic virus, which mainly uses ginger lily as its host. Once detected, the plants should be removed immediately.
