Lucky bamboo has many diseases; how do you prevent and control them in daily care?
Plants, like people, can get sick. Anyone who grows lucky bamboo knows this well: the lucky bamboo they grow often dies for no apparent reason, and after just a few months it withers and cannot survive indoors long term. This is actually caused by lucky bamboo diseases and needs to be dealt with.
Lucky bamboo anthracnose
Symptoms
In the early stage of the disease, grayish-brown lesions appear at the leaf tip or leaf edge. The lesions are irregular or semicircular, grayish-white in the center, dark brown at the edges, with a yellow halo outside; the concentric rings on the lesions are obvious or not obvious, and small black dots are scattered on them.
Prevention and control methods
In winter and spring, promptly remove diseased leaves and destroy them, and sprinkle quicklime on the soil to disinfect it.
Increase ventilation, control water appropriately, reduce the humidity of the potting soil, and apply organic fertilizer appropriately.
Remove diseased and leftover plant material and burn it in a centralized way, and sprinkle quicklime once to sterilize and disinfect the soil.
Spray fungicide promptly to control the disease. Spray chlorothalonil, 3~4 times in a row, with an interval of 10 days.
Lucky bamboo stem rot
Symptoms
Lucky bamboo stem rot causes the plant to die and reduces its ornamental value. It mainly occurs from May to September, when the weather is hot and stuffy. The stem base turns yellow and soft, the inside of the stem gradually turns red, and the plant rots from the bottom up.
Prevention and control methods
Before planting, choose excellent varieties with a certain degree of disease resistance. Usually pay attention to water control and do not let water accumulate.
Remove diseased plants promptly when found, so as to avoid infecting other plants.
Once any abnormality is found on the lucky bamboo stem, immediately disinfect with a 3000-fold dilution of 42% kejunqing powder, or a 1000-fold dilution of 88% hydrostreptomycin.
Lucky bamboo leaf spot
Symptoms
In the early stage of the disease, brown spots appear with yellow edges; the lesions gradually expand and become round, gray in the center, dark brown at the edges, and yellow around; under humid conditions, black granular substances appear on the lesions.
Prevention and control methods
Prevent plants from being too dense and maintain ventilation and light. When growth is too dense, prune promptly, and remove diseased leaves promptly when found.
In the early stage of the disease, spray the leaf surface with a 3000-fold dilution of 42% kejunqing powder, once every 5~7 days, for 2~3 times in a row.
Lucky bamboo root rot
Symptoms
Root rot mainly harms the roots of lucky bamboo. It does not produce offshoots, or the shoots are uneven, the seedling emergence rate is low, or the tender roots at the base of the plant stem rot.
Prevention and control methods
In daily care, avoid rain exposure and provide appropriate shade. Fertilize once a month, combining organic fertilizer with inorganic fertilizer.
When disease is found, spray promptly. First use a 1000-fold dilution of 70% thiophanate-methyl, then after 5~7 days use a 1000-fold dilution of 58% metalaxyl-mancozeb, and after another 5~7 days use a 1000-fold dilution of 75% chlorothalonil. The order of these agents can be reversed, which can reduce the pathogen's resistance to the chemicals.
Lucky bamboo has quite a few diseases, and the solutions used for different lucky bamboo diseases differ. It is recommended that when facing problems with lucky bamboo, people use standardized methods to solve them, so that lucky bamboo can survive indoors long term.
