Introduction to the cosmos planting method

Cosmos has a strong reproductive capacity and is very suitable for growing. Next, let's take a look together at the cosmos planting method.

There is a legend that whoever first finds a cosmos flower on the grassland will find happiness. However, the reason for sowing cosmos is not only because of liking this legend, but also because it suits most soils, sprouts quickly, is easy to care for, and produces clear, beautiful flowers. There are flowers in several colors - white, purplish red, and pink - and each one is elegant and beautiful. At first I worried it would be very difficult to grow, especially sowing it myself in flower pots on the balcony, but practice has proven that growing cosmos yourself is also very easy, and the ones you grow will also produce gorgeous blooms. It adds a lot of charming color to the balcony.

Cosmos sowing time

When flowers are needed in summer, sow from February to March in early spring, and it is best to sow under conditions where both temperature and humidity can be controlled. If you plan to sow in the open air, sow in mid-April when the temperature is suitable; when the temperature is suitable, seedlings will emerge in about a week. The sowing medium should be loose soil rich in organic matter, and a certain amount of fully decomposed organic fertilizer should be applied before sowing. When sowing, mix the seeds evenly with a certain amount of sand, and evenly broadcast them onto the seedbed, then cover with about one centimeter of soil. After sowing, keep the soil moist; germination can occur when the temperature is controlled at about 18°C.

How to prevent cosmos from lodging

Cosmos has a relatively tall, sparse and graceful plant shape, and large, beautiful flowers, yet lodging often occurs because of this, greatly spoiling the scenery. For cosmos lodging, the following measures can be taken to prevent it:

① Sow from July to August. Cosmos sown during this period can bloom in October, and the plants are short and neat.

② Pinching. During the growth period of cosmos, pinching should be done multiple times; on the one hand, it can dwarf the entire plant, and on the other hand, it can also promote the budding of branches and increase the number of flowers.

③ Apply less fertilizer and water less. Too much fertilizer and water can easily cause the plant to grow excessively and lodge, and it will also bloom sparsely.

Cosmos planting method - sowing method

First, we must clearly know that cosmos is propagated by seeds. When planting, the first thing to consider is the soil. Appropriately choose soil from a place where flowers and plants grow luxuriantly, evenly spread part of the soil into the flower pot, then evenly sprinkle the flower seeds onto the soil, then evenly sprinkle a layer of soil over the seeds, and finally water them; the amount of water should be appropriate, and place them in a cool, ventilated place, and after a few days the seeds can be seen sprouting. However, before the seeds germinate, do not place them in direct sun or in a place with high temperature, and do not water too frequently. After germination, move them to the balcony and give them a warm environment with sufficient sunlight.

Cosmos planting method - cutting propagation

During the growth period of cosmos, cutting propagation can be carried out. Cut 15cm or so of healthy shoot tips below a node, insert them into sandy loam soil; similarly, the soil should not be overly fertile, then provide appropriate shade and maintain humidity, and do not water too much every day; just keep the soil moist enough, and water must not accumulate in the soil. Be sure not to place them in a place with high temperature, do not expose them to direct sun, and carry out cutting propagation in a warm and humid environment. According to this method, roots can form in about 5-6 days. Not only healthy shoot tips can be used for cutting propagation; after spring sowing in April, germination is rapid, with germination in 7-10 days after sowing. Tender branches can also be used for cutting propagation, rooting in 15-18 days after insertion.
