Is a Money Tree with Mold Spots on Its Trunk Diseased and How Should It Be Resolved

Anyone who has grown a money tree (Pachira aquatica) has probably had this experience: mold spots on the trunk of the money tree! What exactly is going on here? Is the money tree sick? Mold spots on the trunk of a money tree, whatever the cause, are unsightly. Therefore, prevention and treatment need to be carried out early.

Mold spots growing on the trunk of a money tree are probably related to root rot.

Root rot is a common disease that seriously harms money trees, also known as rot disease.

For this, we might first check whether the trunk is still hard. If it is still hard, it means the money tree can still grow normally. Otherwise, if the trunk has necrosed, there is no saving it.

Prevention and treatment methods:

(1) Keep the growing environment dry and fresh, and pay attention to disinfecting the growing medium and the site;

(2) After semi-finished products are taken out of the cabinet and unloaded to the work shed, immediately spray the head of the money tree with procymidone to prevent the harm of gray mold spores;

(3) Before planting, use a sharp knife to cut off the twisted and rotten tissue at the top of the main root, then spray the wound with procymidone, let it dry, and then plant it;

(4) One week after planting, the medium in the pot gradually dries, healing tissue has formed, and new roots have begun to grow. Spray the bare stem of the money tree with propamocarb, dimethomorph, or zinc manganese metalaxyl mancozeb (ridomil-manganese zinc), so that the liquid flows along the stem into the potting soil. After that, use dimethomorph, hymexazol, ridomil, or ethylicin as fungicides in rotation once a week;

(5) If Pythium is active, spray with propamocarb, hymexazol, ridomil, or ethylicin; the effect generally lasts about two weeks. If the weather is still bad, another different agent must be sprayed to prevent the development of resistance. If any rotting plant is found during this period, it should be discarded immediately.

The money tree is a drought-tolerant plant, and its roots can store water, so it does not need to be watered too much, otherwise the roots will rot. Therefore, you must understand the growth habits of the money tree and control the water, nutrients, sunlight, and so on that the money tree needs, so that the money tree can grow vigorously.
