How to Tell When a Cactus Is Dehydrated and the Right Watering Techniques
The cactus is a drought-tolerant plant and one of the few plants that can survive in the desert. Even so, cacti still need to be watered. If a cactus is not watered for a long time, all kinds of problems will arise. So how do you tell when a cactus is dehydrated?
Judging dehydration in a cactus: Cacti are drought-tolerant. When growing well, they look very plump, and the fleshy pads along the edges bulge outward slightly. Once dehydration begins, the pads flatten out a bit; when the plant is dehydrated, they sink inward, and you can tell at a glance that it is no longer so plump.
How to Water a Cactus
The cactus belongs to the family Cactaceae and is commonly known as the grass ball. It grows in desert regions and prefers a hot, dry climate. The cactus is native to the grasslands of South America. The cactus is also a flowering plant, and its flowers come in three colors: white, red and yellow. Watering a cactus properly helps it bloom. The cactus flowering season is in summer. Summer weather is relatively dry and hot, and to encourage the cactus to bloom abundantly in summer, you should water it more often in summer, generally once a week; each time you water, just moisten the cactus's soil.
Cacti need watering in all four seasons. When watering a cactus in spring and autumn, you only need to water once every half a month, because the weather in these two seasons is relatively warm and the air carries moisture; the cactus can absorb moisture from the air through its spines to maintain its water and nutrient supply. In winter, the cactus does not need watering, because winter weather is relatively cold and the air is filled with mist, so at this time the cactus is not short of water. In the relatively cold weather of winter, the cactus is a plant that fears cold but not heat, so in winter you should protect the cactus from the cold.
How do you tell when a cactus is dehydrated? When you notice the relevant symptoms on a cactus, it proves that the cactus is dehydrated. At this point you must water it in time; only after watering can the cactus revive and avoid all kinds of problems. Everyone should be clear on this point.
