How to care for a potted cactus? Easy to grow, but don't neglect it
As a drought-tolerant plant that can counteract radiation, the cactus is welcomed by many people, especially white-collar office workers, who very much like to place a potted cactus on their office desk. If you have a potted cactus, you also need to know how to grow it, but how do you care for a potted cactus?
Flower pot and soil. Unlike the potted spiderwort (Commelina), the cactus's root system, compared with its above-ground parts, does not develop very large, so when potting a cactus, there is no need to use an overly large flower pot. An ordinary unglazed pot with good drainage can be used.
Soil. Spherical cacti and hedgehog cacti originally both grew in desert regions. A soil made by mixing 6 parts river sand, 3 parts clay, and 1 part humus soil
can be used for cultivation; special care must be taken to prevent the soil from becoming acidic, and a small amount of lime can be added. For example, the crab-claw cactus (Euphorbia) and the Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera) originally both grew in humid tropical dense forests, so kanuma soil, sphagnum moss, humus soil, river sand, and dry-field soil should be mixed and used in appropriate proportions.
Potting the cactus. Cactus seedlings propagated by sowing, grafting, and cuttings are generally moved into flower pots in April. The soil in the pot should be kept appropriately moist, and they should be planted shallowly so they do not fall over. After transplanting the seedlings, cover them well with newspaper to prevent strong light and dryness. After 2 to 3 days, water them in small amounts but several times.
Cultivation method. The cactus is a slow-growing plant; even when it has grown quite large, do not repot it. Every 1 to 2 years, replace the soil once without damaging the roots.
Watering. From autumn to spring is the period of vigorous growth for cacti, and appropriate watering should be given according to the different varieties. During the period of lower temperatures from autumn to spring, water only a small amount. On clear days when it is very dry, water; on cloudy and rainy days, do not water. In particular, for cacti with cotton-like hairs on the surface, do not pour water onto the hairs, so as to avoid dirtying them.
How to care for a potted cactus? When growing a potted cactus, besides needing to know its methods, you also need to carefully look after it day to day; do not give it too much fertilizer, too much water, and so on. Also, just because a potted cactus does not need much care does not mean it does not need to be cared for.
