Have you ever tried pouring cola directly into a flower pot? If you did, your friends would probably suspect you were trying to torture the plant. But with the right method, cola can actually become a great fertilizer for your flowers.

Cola of all different brands can be used for gardening, though of course the method has to be right. It doesn't mean pouring cola directly into potted flowers. Here are 5 uses of cola in gardening.

1. Keeping cut flowers fresh

Cola is rich in sugar and has undergone sterilization treatment, so some fresh cut flowers can be kept in cola. The sugar in cola can ensure a longer fresh period for cut flowers, extending their freshness by 5 days compared to cut flowers kept in plain water.

2. Cola composting

Some very experienced gardening enthusiasts have tested out a fairly effective method to promote composting. Cola's role in composting is mainly due to its caramel content. During the composting process, adding an appropriate amount of cola can help the weakly acidic substances in it ferment the compost faster and speed up the decomposition of composting materials. Its sugar content mainly promotes the survival of beneficial microorganisms in the compost. Ordinary composting takes half a year, while compost with cola added takes only about 3 months.

3. Getting rid of slugs

If the vegetables and flowers in your yard or on your balcony are often attacked by slugs and snails, then you can use cola to get rid of them. Both cola and beer are liquids that easily attract slugs. Place a shallow bowl next to the plants and pour some cola into the bowl in the evening. They will be attracted, and the acidic substances in the cola will kill these pests.

4. Wasp trap

If your yard has many wasps or hornets (you'll know the pain once you're stung), and you want to get rid of them, you can use cola to attract them. To make a wasp trap, you need to place a container filled with cola in an open area of the yard. These insects will be attracted. This method is also suitable for luring and killing flies.

5. Spraying on plants

Of course, you can't directly use cola to water flowers. It should be used at the right time. You should know that every 28 grams of cola contains as much as 3.38 grams of sugar, so it is not suitable for watering flowers. Instead, spray it on plant cuts to prevent them from rotting due to excessive moisture and to prevent water absorption.

If you use it to water flowers, it will prevent the roots from absorbing water, causing dehydration.
