The item introduced below is often used during barbecues; used in gardening, it can make up for insufficient light, stop birds from sneaking a bite of strawberries, blueberries and other fruits you grow at home, and also solve problems such as difficulty with sowing.

1. Improving insufficient light or humidity

When sowing and raising seedlings, if you find that the light or humidity at home is insufficient, you can take out some aluminum foil, as shown in the picture above, fix the aluminum foil with some cardboard, and face it toward the sunlight to reflect the heat.

This way, the aluminum foil can serve as a heat-collecting panel; if you also choose dark-colored flower pots, you can raise the sowing temperature by a lot, and to a certain extent increase the humidity as well.

2. Insulating effect on plants

When cultivating seedlings, if the weather suddenly turns cold, in addition to moving the seedling pots indoors, you can also wrap them in aluminum foil and place the seedling pots on the windowsill, so that the aluminum foil reflects sunlight and gives the seedlings more heat and light; after spraying water, it can also achieve a humidity-increasing effect.

3. Driving away small animals

I have seen some friends who like to place some CDs next to certain plants, which is actually to drive away birds; small birds dislike those shiny things, and aluminum foil can also be used to replace CDs.

If you grow some fruit at home and the fruit is often eaten by small birds, you can hang some aluminum foil in conspicuous spots on the branches to protect the fruit.

4. Avoiding pest damage

Aluminum foil can also prevent some pests from laying eggs on melons and fruits. Many pests cannot tell aluminum foil from leaves, and it has a fairly good effect on certain pests. The principle is to let the pests lay eggs on the aluminum foil, so that after the larvae hatch they have no leaves to eat; however, after the pests lay eggs, the pieces of aluminum foil on the leaves or branches should be cleaned up promptly.

5. Protecting flowers

In summer, wrapping a ring of aluminum foil around plants can help retain soil moisture and also block heat, thereby lowering the soil temperature, preventing plant roots from being scorched by the sun, and also preventing weeds from growing thickly in the soil.

Another benefit is that this aluminum foil can drive away many pests, such as the common slugs and so on.

6. Protecting plants

If your plants are often nibbled on by mice, you can place shiny aluminum foil beside them, though it only works when there is a light source; it can prevent mice or rabbits from gnawing on the plants, and you can simply wrap it directly around the base of the plant's stems.
