How to make the rootstock and scion for grafting peach saplings

In April, all the flowers on earth have faded, yet the peach blossoms in the mountain temple are just beginning to bloom. The beauty of peach blossoms has always been deeply enchanting; peach blossoms are not only lovely to look at, but the fruit they bear is also very delicious. With the development of modern society, agricultural technology has become more and more advanced, and nowadays, in the way people cultivate peach trees, the technique of grafting is used very well.

Grafting is one of the commonly used methods of artificial propagation. First, the branch of the plant to be grafted must be grafted onto another plant, and then, through the natural growth of the plants, the two plants merge into one and grow into a complete plant. In grafting, there are many techniques that need to be mastered, such as whether the connection between the scion and the rootstock is tight, and how the plant needs to be cared for after grafting. Grafting of peach saplings can be done in all four seasons of the year, but each season has different key points that need attention.

Generally, in the common grafting of peach saplings, the method chosen is bud grafting of peach saplings. First, when grafting, the position for making the cut should be chosen at a spot on the rootstock about 3-5 cm from the ground. The shape of the cut should be one horizontal cut and one vertical cut, and the depth of the cut only needs to go through the bark. Generally, after cutting, the opening takes the shape of the letter T.

As for the scion method in peach sapling grafting, a relatively plump axillary bud should be selected on the twig, which some people also call the graft bud. About half a centimeter to one centimeter below the graft bud, cut from bottom to top, and according to the size requirements, remove a shield-shaped bud piece, generally about 1.5 cm to 2.5 cm in length and about 0.6 cm in width. The shield-shaped bud piece that is removed generally does not carry wood.

Then comes the joining of the rootstock and the shield-shaped bud piece. Use a tool to pry open the cut already made on the rootstock, then insert the shield-shaped bud piece from top to bottom, so that the shield-shaped bud piece fits tightly against the rootstock, and also make the cut neat, exposing the bud part.

Finally, the rootstock and bud piece that have already been inserted should be tied. Plastic strips should be used, and the connected part should be tied firmly with the plastic strips, but not too tightly; the tightness should be moderate.

In each of the four seasons of the year, peach sapling grafting can be carried out, but in different seasons, different key points need attention. Generally, however, if peach sapling grafting is carried out in spring, the survival rate will be as high as about 98 percent. In summer, if the grafted peach saplings do not survive, a second grafting can be chosen.
