What are foliage plants? These classic varieties are worth getting to know
In our daily lives, we often see all kinds of plants with beautiful forms, and these plants generally have slender leaves and beautiful leaf colors. These graceful plants all share a common name: foliage plants. Foliage plants generally refer to those plants that grow in tropical regions. Because they need a large amount of water, their leaves are relatively long. Next, let me briefly introduce a few kinds of foliage plants.
Maidenhair fern
The first foliage plant I will introduce to you is the maidenhair fern. This plant is a small plant, about 15 to 40 cm tall, and its rhizome grows horizontally. Also, the base of this plant's leaves is purple and very glossy, and its leaflets are egg-shaped. The main body of the plant's leaves is emerald green, and the tips of some leaves extend into a whip-like shape. If its leaves touch the ground, they will take root where they fall and develop young shoots. This plant likes a warm environment and is also somewhat cold-tolerant. If it is cultivated in the south, it can survive the winter even in winter. If we want to grow this plant, we can plant the seedlings on the ground or in flower pots. Because this plant is afraid of sunlight during growth, we need to place it in a shady place.
Peperomia
The second one I will introduce to you is Peperomia. Most people may not have heard the name of this plant. It is a plant native to Brazil, and it is relatively tall, generally about 20 cm to 30 cm. At the same time, this plant has no obvious stem, so the leaves grow directly from the plant's stalk, and the leaves are very broad, thick, and very glossy. The surface of the leaves is green, while the underside of the leaves is red. There are also rings of silvery-white stripes on the leaf surface, just like a watermelon, so it is also called watermelon plant. This plant likes to grow in moist to semi-moist environments. If the light is too strong, it will affect the color change of the plant's leaves. The most suitable growing temperature for this plant is about 20°C to 30°C. Because its rhizome is relatively soft, it rots easily, so we need to add appropriate cold protection measures when the plant overwinters.
Begonia
The third one I will introduce to you is begonia. The leaves of this plant are dark green with some silvery-white markings in the middle, while the underside of its leaves is purplish-red, and in the center of the leaves there is an obvious black cross pattern, so it is also called iron cross begonia. This iron cross begonia likes to grow in warm and humid environments, and it has a low demand for light. However, if the light is too weak, it will affect its leaf color, so we generally place it in a place with bright sunlight, such as in the living room at home or under the shade of trees outdoors.
The above is a summary of several kinds of foliage plant varieties. Their common characteristics are that their leaves are relatively beautiful and their forms are slender. They are very suitable for placement at home or in some public places. If we want to grow a foliage plant, we need to look up relevant flower information online.
