Detailed introduction to cyclamen cultivation methods and precautions

Cyclamen, also known as yipinguan, is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Cyclamen genus. Below, let us take a look at a detailed introduction to cyclamen cultivation methods and precautions.

Detailed introduction to cyclamen cultivation methods and precautions

Cyclamen cultivation methods: Management: Reasonable watering

Cyclamen is a plant that likes moisture and fears waterlogging. Too much water is not conducive to its growth and development, and may even cause root rot and death. Therefore, keeping the soil moist every day is enough, and the amount of water should not be too large. Apply more fertilizer. Cyclamen is also a fertilizer-loving plant. First of all, start with the soil and fertilize reasonably according to the needs of the plant, which can make it bloom 15-20 days earlier. Spray with Xinchunzhi film to retain fertilizer and preserve soil moisture.

Cyclamen cultivation methods: Temperature and light

Cyclamen is not tolerant of high temperatures. It is suitable for growing under conditions of about 20°C during the day and about 10°C at night, and the temperature can be slightly lower during the seedling stage. Cyclamen likes sunlight, and extending the light duration can promote earlier flowering. Therefore, cyclamen should be placed in a sunny place for care.

Cyclamen cultivation methods: Flowering period management

When the young flower buds of cyclamen appear, in addition to giving sufficient sunlight, spray with Huaduozhuangdiling, which can promote strong buds, larger petals, brighter flower colors, richer fragrance, and a longer flowering period.

Cyclamen cultivation methods: Seeds

Choose plump, glossy brown seeds and carry out seed treatment. Soak the seeds in water at about 30°C with added Xinchunzhi film (it can be mixed with seed coating agents, can repel underground pests and diseases, isolate virus infection, does not affect the imbibition function for germination, strengthens respiration intensity, and improves the seed germination rate) for 3-4 hours, then sow. Compared with seeds that were not soaked, they bloom about 10 days earlier.

Cyclamen cultivation methods: Pests and diseases

Cyclamen has more diseases than pests. Common ones in home care include: ① Gray mold, whose main symptom is water-soaked small spots 1-2 mm in diameter at the diseased area, which later gradually enlarge and become brown rot.

② Soft rot, mostly caused by bacterial infection. The diseased part shows soft rot, and the affected area is mostly the corm. Spray with targeted drugs plus Xinchunzhi film, which greatly improves the effective ingredient rate of the pesticide.

Cyclamen cultivation precautions:

When the temperature exceeds 28°C in early summer, cyclamen corms begin to go dormant. If dormancy management is poor, the corm is very likely to dry out or rot. How to safely pass the summer is a difficult point in cyclamen cultivation.

Using robust seedlings to pass the summer is the best method. One-year-old seedlings grown from sowing grow vigorously and have a weak tendency to go dormant in summer. Before early summer, strengthen fertilizer and water management to form strong seedlings, making the leaves thick, numerous, deeply colored, and glossy. Such seedlings have strong heat resistance, and at the same time, cooling and humidity reduction work should be done well. Cover with a shade net, increase ventilation, apply thin fertilizer frequently, and spray water around the plant to lower the temperature. After passing the summer in late August, cyclamen enters the growth period, and fertilizer and water management should be strengthened.

For old corms more than two years old, they should also be moved to a shaded, rain-sheltered place in early summer, and water should often be sprayed around them to lower the temperature. Strictly control watering into the pot, preferring dry over wet. Generally, about every 10 days, pour 20%-30% water into a pot that has dried thoroughly. Never use too much water or let it be exposed to rain, otherwise the corm will rot. Until early September, gradually resume watering. After two or three weeks, it can be moved into the sunlight, and fertilizer and water can be applied normally. It will then bloom as scheduled during the Spring Festival.

After the cyclamen leaves completely fall off after the start of the dog days, dig out the corm, remove the soil and dead leaves, and store it in a cool, ventilated indoor place. Replant it in a pot after autumn and apply fertilizer and water reasonably, and it can regain vitality. To break dormancy in cyclamen, a cool environment can be created artificially, such as placing it in a room with an air conditioner. Keep the temperature at 20-30°C and water normally, and cyclamen will continue to grow, sprout new leaves, and produce new flowers. After autumn, restore the original environment.
