Hydroponic Hyacinth Growing Methods and Precautions

Hydroponic hyacinth is one of the easiest flowering varieties to grow among hydroponic flowers. It is a plant of the Liliaceae family and also a bulbous flower. Hyacinth inflorescences are full, the colors are diverse, and the roots are pure white, so many people like to place a pot of hyacinth at home or in the office. Below we introduce the hydroponic hyacinth growing methods and precautions.

Hydroponic Hyacinth Growing Methods

Before hydroponic growing, disinfection treatment is needed. After disinfection, a special hyacinth hydroponic bottle does not need pebbles. If it is a wide-mouth bottle, put in pebbles, and it is best to let tap water sit overnight before use. Place the bulb on the bottle or on the pebbles.

1. Choose a container whose mouth can hold the bulb in place, preferably a gourd-shaped container that is small at the top and large at the bottom, with transparent glass being better. Some household items such as goblets and wine bottles can also be used, and wide-mouth containers can also be used. There should be a 1cm-2cm gap between the water surface and the bottom of the bulb. Never let water cover the bottom of the bulb, so as to ensure the roots can breathe freely.

2. The water temperature should not be high; below 15°C is better. Tap water can be used directly.

3. Place the bulb on the bottleneck. After roots begin to grow, the water level can be lowered until the roots can just touch the water surface. This allows the roots to fully absorb oxygen and promotes root growth. After the roots develop, cover the growing container with black cloth to let the bulb develop further.

4. In winter, move the container to a place with ample sunlight to encourage larger and stronger flowers.

5. When leaves and flower buds emerge, expose them to sunlight for one to two hours each day to make the leaves and flower stalks strong; rotate the direction every day so that it does not grow leaning to one side. Avoid the "crooked neck" phenomenon.

6. Before the bulb sprouts, do not place it under direct sunlight.

7. Several hyacinth plants can also be planted in a fish tank, with sand as the substrate, supplemented by shade-loving ferns, forming a small scene full of wild charm, which is also very unique.

Precautions for Hydroponic Hyacinth

1. There should be a 1-2cm gap between the water level and the base plate of the bulb, so that the root system can breathe and get air. It is strictly forbidden to fill the water so full that it covers the bottom of the bulb. In December, the bulb can be placed in a wide-mouth glass bottle with a grid, and a little charcoal can be added to help with disinfection and prevent rot. For hyacinth, the bulb only needs to be soaked to the bottom of the bulb. Then place it in a dark place and cover the bottle with black cloth.

2. If growing in clean water, change the water once every 7 days. If growing with hydroponic nutrient solution, replace the nutrient solution once every 10-15 days depending on the degree of cloudiness. No matter what, keep the water quality in the bottle clean. Hyacinth can be grown in a specially made gourd-like glass bottle, and its flower cluster can be viewed in the upper section. After more than 20 days in this way, the roots will sprout in a completely dark environment, and then it can be taken outside to receive sunlight.

3. Before the bulb sprouts, do not place it under direct sunlight. After sprouting, it should be placed in a bright, well-ventilated location with sunlight to help its growth. At first, expose it to sunlight for one to two hours a day, then gradually increase to seven to eight hours. If the weather does not change much, it may bloom by the Spring Festival, and in the lower section you can see a bundle of thick white roots. This scene of both flowers and roots flourishing together is rarely seen in other flowers and plants except orchids.

4. Hydroponic hyacinth is one of the easiest flowering varieties to grow among hydroponic flowers. The flower colors of hyacinth are varied: red like fire, purple intoxicating, yellow dazzling, pink charming, white pure, and blue profound. They represent positivity and a love of life. When they bloom, they symbolize the arrival of spring and inspire people. Start hydroponic growing from November, and they will bloom after about 70-80 days, with fragrance.
