Cherry blossom seed planting method and sowing time
Cherry blossom seeds are dormant and difficult to germinate, so they need to be treated before sowing; do not sow them directly. The method is: after the cherry blossom seeds mature, pick them and remove the flesh, the cleaner the better, then layer the cherry blossom seeds with wet sphagnum moss or sand in alternating layers, keeping the temperature of the sphagnum moss or sand at about 25°C, that is, an ambient temperature of about 30°C, for about 5 weeks, then take them out and seal them in a plastic bag, place them in the refrigerator compartment, keeping the temperature at 8-10°C, and take them out after 2 weeks for sowing.

Cherry blossom seed planting method
Soil requirements and improvement measures: Cherry blossoms can grow well in sandy loam and clay loam containing more humus (pH 5.5 to 6.5). In places in the south where the soil is heavy and sticky, generally mix in homemade leaf mold (soil made by composting collected leaves, acidic soil, chicken manure and charcoal powder). Note that before mixing, all existing clay clods must be broken up completely, otherwise it will not improve the soil. In places where the groundwater level is less than 1 m, use the high-planting method, that is, level the entire planting hole first, then pile soil on top and plant the seedling. For alkaline soil in the north, it is necessary to apply sulfur powder or ferrous sulfate, etc. to adjust the pH value to about 6.
Apply 2 grams of sulfur powder per sq m, effective for 1 to 2 years, and measure it every year at the same time so that the pH value does not exceed 7. Varieties such as mountain cherry and Somei Yoshino have straight trunks and larger trees; they are strongly sun-loving tree species and require a wind-sheltered, sunny location with ventilation and light. When planting in groups, make sure every tree can receive sunlight.
When to sow cherry blossom seeds
The suitable period for planting cherry blossom seeds is March to June each year. It is best during the rainy plum rain season. When propagating cherry blossoms by sowing, be careful not to let the seed embryos dry out; when sowing, remove the outer flesh, and either sow immediately after collection or stratify in wet sand and sow in early spring the following year. The planting time is immediately after the soil thaws in early spring, generally February or March. Carefully prepare the soil before planting. For planting on flat ground, dig a hole 1 m in diameter and 0.8 m deep. First fill about half the depth of the hole with improved soil, place the seedling in the center of the hole, and spread the seedling roots in all directions. After adding a small amount of soil, lift the seedling slightly upward so the root system spreads fully, then press lightly. The planting depth should make the uppermost seedling roots 5 cm from the ground. After planting, make a water-catching basin and water thoroughly, finally supporting it with a bamboo strip about as tall as the seedling to prevent it from being blown over by the wind.
