How to Grow Pothos? A Complete Guide to Care Methods and Precautions
Many people place pothos indoors, as it can purify the air. Today, let's take a brief look at the care methods and precautions for pothos.
Introduction to Pothos
Pothos, also known as devil's ivy, golden pothos, golden vine or mulberry leaf, belongs to the genus Epipremnum in the Araceae family. It is native to the tropical rainforests of the Solomon Islands in Indonesia and is a typical large tropical evergreen climbing plant. People today are very familiar with pothos because of its excellent ornamental value and environmental value. Environmental value refers to pothos's extremely strong air purification ability and nano-adsorption capacity. Pothos still enjoys the reputation of being a green purifier today, and its air purification ability is outstanding, as it can absorb harmful gases in the air such as formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene.
Pothos Care Methods and Precautions
1. Water Frequently
Although pothos is a tropical plant, the aspect of controlling water quantity cannot be ignored. Watering is the most important substance for plant growth. It likes moisture, so the soil it is cultivated in should remain moist at all times, but the soil should not be too waterlogged; maintaining moist soil is sufficient. In summer, it is advisable to spray water on the leaves to prevent drying out and withering.
2. No Direct Sun Exposure
Pothos grows in spaces shaded by tall forest trees, so the area it exposes to sunlight is not large, meaning it is not directly hit by sunlight. Therefore, its heliotropism is not strong, and it cannot be exposed to direct sunlight. However, it still needs sunlight for photosynthesis, so it is best to place it in a spot without direct sunlight.
3. Temperature
Pothos also has particular requirements for its growing temperature. In winter, make sure the temperature does not drop below 10°C so that pothos can survive the winter. Many people place it next to heating equipment, which is not a good practice. At indoor temperatures, the most suitable temperature for its growth is around 20°C.
4. Fertilizing and Humidity
When pothos is grown in pots, the fertilizer in the soil will be used up, so the potted plant should be fertilized in a timely manner, generally once every half month. The amount used each time should be controlled well, and you should ask at the flower shop about suitable fertilizer types. Pothos likes moisture, and it can grow faster in an environment with sufficient humidity, so the air humidity can be maintained to facilitate its growth.
5. Root Trimming Work
For the roots of pothos, we need to clean them at intervals. After the root system grows long, the roots need to be trimmed. If there are rotten roots, cut them off so that pothos can absorb nutrients better.
Can Pothos Be Placed in the Bedroom?
Pothos is a plant with very strong photosynthesis. If a large number of them are placed in the bedroom, because the bedroom's ventilation is not very strong, it will inevitably compete with people for oxygen, which will affect sleep quality. Placing a small amount is still fine and can make the room look more beautiful.
