Late rice in Xiangzhou County, Guangxi, has again achieved a bumper harvest
(Agricultural Wealth Network) Recently, Xiangzhou County organized more than 10 experts in agriculture and quality supervision to measure the yield of the 1,000-mu contiguous super rice demonstration plot in Luoxiu Town. The results showed that the super rice averaged 700 kg of fresh grain per mu, equivalent to 546 kg of dry grain per mu, more than 140 kg higher than the county's average yield per mu.
To increase grain output and ensure food security, the Xiangzhou County Agriculture Bureau treats grain production as an important task. Despite tight funding, the bureau raised nearly 100,000 yuan to establish a 1,000-mu contiguous super rice high-yield demonstration plot in Luoxiu Town, adopting unified sowing and seedling raising, unified field management, and unified fertilization and pesticide spraying, so that the people can easily master a complete set of super rice high-yield cultivation techniques, and radiating to drive the construction of more than 200,000 mu of high-yield rice fields across the county.
Thanks to adequate technical training, advanced and practical techniques such as soil testing and formulated fertilization for rice fields, rational close planting, and integrated harmless control of pests and diseases have been widely applied. The county's 220,000 mu of late rice is growing well and gradually maturing, and grain output in the second half of the year is expected to reach 66,400 tons.
