**30th Regiment of the Corps explores a new path for cotton production by promoting hybrid cotton seed production technology
(Agricultural Wealth Network) Since July, workers of the 5th Company of the 30th Regiment, 2nd Agricultural Division of the **Production and Construction Corps, have arrived punctually at 12:00 in the morning and 19:00 in the afternoon every day at the company's 3110+ agricultural hybrid seed production cotton field to emasculate and pollinate the cotton, carrying out cotton hybrid seed production work.
In recent years, the 30th Regiment has taken increasing cotton yield as the breakthrough point for raising workers' incomes. In accordance with the requirements of "high quality, high yield, high efficiency," it has vigorously implemented the ten major agricultural core technologies and six precision technologies, comprehensively popularized improved varieties, and raised cotton yield and quality. For many years it relied on cotton seed provided by local seed companies for cotton production, and in cultivation and planting there were shortcomings such as poor adaptability, easy degeneration, and high seed prices. To change this situation, starting in 2007 the 30th Regiment introduced cotton hybrid seed production technology. In 2008 cultivation and planting it showed the characteristics of high yield, good quality, and strong adaptability, achieving relatively good results. For this reason, in 2009 the 30th Regiment increased the promotion of cotton hybrid seed production, promoting planting on more than 100 mu in total across 10 cotton-planting units of the entire regiment. The specific seed production workload was completed jointly by the cadres and workers of each company using their spare time. In order to increase everyone's sense of responsibility and enthusiasm for seed production, the 30th Regiment also specially formulated management measures for hybrid cotton seed production and established reward and penalty measures. Cotton from seed production that passed inspection was purchased back at a price of 30 yuan per kg. This not only increased workers' incomes, but also enabled everyone to learn hybrid cotton seed production technology, laying a foundation for large-scale seed production in the future.
According to Guo Yong, company commander of the 10th Company of the 30th Regiment: last year the company planted 5 mu of hybrid seed production cotton field, with an output value per mu of more than 5,000 yuan. After deducting labor and production material costs, net income was about 2,000 yuan, 2-3 times higher than conventional planting.
