How to prevent and control pepper Phytophthora blight? Introduction of a new pesticide in Banan District, Chongqing, proves successful

    Pepper Phytophthora blight is a major disease threatening pepper production. In recent years, its affected area in Banan District, Chongqing, has continued to expand, and the damage has become increasingly serious. Once pepper Phytophthora blight occurs, it usually causes 20-40% losses; in severe cases, 50-80% losses; and in especially severe cases, even total crop failure. The occurrence of pepper Phytophthora blight has seriously affected vegetable growers' enthusiasm for production. The vegetable base in Dazhong Village, Yudong Street, used to plant more than 800 mu of peppers. Due to the damage from pepper Phytophthora blight, the planting area has decreased year by year. This year, the planting area is less than 400 mu, a decrease of 50% compared with the past.

    To solve this problem, in April-May this year, the district agriculture bureau introduced a new pesticide produced by Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha, Ltd. of Japan - 50% Fluazinam suspension concentrate - and conducted trials and demonstrations in Dazhong Village, Yudong Street. A 1000-fold solution of 50% Fluazinam was evenly sprayed over the entire pepper plant, once every 7-10 days. So far, it has been applied four times consecutively, and the control effect is very significant.

    On May 20, the district plant protection station held an on-site meeting in Dazhong Village. More than 30 large growers from the district's vegetable bases and pesticide operators attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by station head Xu Jing. Attendees first visited the trial and demonstration site, and then held a meeting in the Dazhong Village meeting room. Liu Hongrong, deputy head of the district plant protection station, introduced the trial and demonstration situation.
