Regiment 147 restructures industry and introduces field cultivation of cherry tomatoes with success

On the morning of June 2, this reporter saw in a 150-mu cherry tomato planting base in Company 11 of Regiment 147, Agricultural Division 8 of the **Production and Construction Corps, clusters of heavy little fruits already hanging on the branches, quite a beautiful sight.

This year, based on market conditions, Regiment 147 vigorously restructured its industry and developed specialty planting. The regiment introduced a cherry tomato variety from elsewhere for the first time and built a cherry tomato planting base covering an area of 150 mu in Company 11 of the regiment, with all output purchased under contract. In April this year, the regiment carefully transplanted cherry tomato seedlings. After procedures such as land preparation, planting seedlings, fertilizing and irrigation, the cherry tomatoes have begun to set fruit, which also marks the regiment's first introduction of "cherry tomato" field cultivation finally achieving success.

According to Zhou Xi, general manager of **Hanhai Desert Management Co., Ltd., which contracts to grow this cherry tomato field, cherry tomato is also known as grape tomato and cherry tomato. It is both a vegetable and a fruit. It not only has bright colors and a beautiful shape, but also tastes good and is rich in nutrients. In addition to containing all the nutritional components of tomatoes, its vitamin content is higher than that of ordinary tomatoes. It has been listed by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization as one of the "four major fruits" for priority promotion. This variety has strong adaptability and good resistance, and is suitable for the cold northern growing environment. Its production procedures are simple, similar to growing tomatoes. About 70 days after the seedlings are planted, the fruit can mature, and the yield per mu can reach more than 3000 kg. It can be picked continuously for about three months. Calculated at the current market price of 8 yuan per kg, the economic benefits are very considerable.
