American rainbow pheasants hatch successfully at the No. 81 Regiment farm

On the afternoon of May 29, the author visited the Fine Seed Propagation Station of the No. 81 Regiment of the Fifth Agricultural Division of the ** Production and Construction Corps, and saw that the American rainbow pheasants introduced from the United States at the farm of Wu Yuping, a female worker of the No. 1 Horticulture Company, had laid eggs and hatched successfully.

The author saw at the farm that these more than 1,000 American rainbow pheasants had brightly colored feathers, were lively and jumping about, and still retained a touch of wildness. Wu Yuping said: "At present, pheasant farming is a blank in the Bole area. After many inspections and contacts last year, I finally got them back. Now these wild pheasants, after artificial domestication, have adapted to local farming."

According to a reporter from China Economic Net, the American rainbow pheasant is also known as the ring-necked pheasant, wild pheasant, and dragon-phoenix bird. Introduced from Nevada in the United States, it has beautiful feathers and a large body. After three and a half months of rearing, the chicks can reach a weight of 3.5 jin for males and 2.5 jin for females. American pheasant meat is coarse, and its protein content is higher than that of ordinary broiler chickens, while its cholesterol content is lower than that of ordinary broiler chickens. It contains various amino acids, trace elements, and multiple vitamins needed by the human body, and is high in protein and low in fat. The rainbow pheasant also has characteristics such as resistance to high temperatures and cold, and is especially suitable for farming in climates like that of **. It is a farming industry with small investment and quick returns.

"This wild pheasant is better than domestic chickens first in terms of meat and taste, and its nutritional aspects are also quite rich. At present, I am still at the stage of exploring farming techniques, and the breeding volume is not large yet. After the breeding techniques mature, I will expand the scale. Through our market research, the market price of American rainbow pheasants is about 150 yuan each, and the market prospects are still quite considerable," Wu Yuping told the reporter.

It is reported that the farm introduced American rainbow pheasants in July last year and has now grown to more than 1,000 birds, with an average daily egg production of more than 30. The hatched wild pheasant chicks retail at 10 yuan each on the market, and 7 or 8 yuan each wholesale. At present, more than 1,000 wild pheasant chicks have been ordered and sold to customers who came to the door.
