Paddlefish "settle" in **Bortala

On May 17, 1,200 paddlefish fry donated to Bortala by the Hubei Provincial Fisheries Research Institute arrived in Bortala. Staff from the prefecture's Fisheries Technology Extension Station placed the fry respectively into the Ebinur Lake Yangtze River mitten crab breeding base, the Bole City fish farm and the Bohe Green Water Source Aquatic Products Company for experimental breeding.

The paddlefish is a large freshwater commercial fish native to the Mississippi River basin in the United States. In 1990, China introduced fertilized eggs of this fish from the United States, and it has now been successfully promoted for production.

Paddlefish meat is delicious, and the snout is rich in collagen and highly nutritious, making it a delicacy for banquets. At present, each kilogram of finished fish sells for about 120 yuan. Paddlefish can also be sold as ornamental fish, with each 15 cm long fish selling for 30 yuan.
