Eel farming is no longer prosperous; Jian'ou City, Fujian introduces red tilapia farming

Recently, in Fujing Village, Xiaoqiao Town, Jian'ou City, Fujian Province, a technician was grabbing a handful of feed and scattering it onto the water surface. Before long, the water surface in the holding pond looked as if it had been dyed red, as schools of red tilapia rushed toward the surface, competing for the feed.

It is understood that in recent years the eel farming industry has been hit by the double impact of trade barriers from importing countries such as Japan and the financial crisis, and the industry has fallen into difficulty. In Nanping City alone, the area of eel farming that has ceased production exceeds 10,000 mu. To reduce the risks of the eel farming industry, revitalize the existing eel farming areas that have ceased production, and actively adjust the structure of aquaculture species, a company in Nanping City introduced 80,000 summer fry of red tilapia from Xiamen on the 6th, adjusting 50 mu of contiguous ponds out of 300 mu of earthen eel farming ponds to carry out a demonstration of large-scale healthy pond farming of red tilapia.

It is reported that this fish is being introduced in the Nanping area for the first time, and it plays an important role in promoting the adjustment and optimization of the city's fishery industry structure, and will serve as a demonstration for revitalizing the eel farming ponds in northern Fujian that have currently ceased production.
