Excellent eggplant varieties promoted in Longmen, with a planting area of more than 1,000 mu

"The yield per mu is nearly 4,500 kg, while the highest yield for ordinary varieties is 1,500 kg per mu. There is no comparison!" Pan Xuehui, a villager from Wangbin Village, Longtian Town, cut off a "Huayu No. 2 Eggplant" weighing nearly 0.5 kg and said with a smile to the reporter. It is understood that, under the guidance of agricultural technology officials, Pan Xuehui achieved high yields over two years of trial planting of excellent vegetable varieties from South China Agricultural University, "Huayu No. 2 Eggplant" and "Guangfeng Red Eggplant."

According to statistics, last year Pan Xuehui planted 1.1 mu of "Huayu No. 2 Eggplant" and sold 4,708 kg of eggplants, with a yield of 4,280 kg per mu; he planted 0.8 mu of "Guangfeng Red Eggplant" and sold 3,330 kg of eggplants, with a yield of 4,162.5 kg per mu. The yield per mu was 2 to 3 times higher than that of ordinary eggplants.

Pan Xuehui told the reporter that because the eggplants are of good quality, every time he took them to the county supply and marketing market to sell them, buyers from Danshui, Zengcheng, and Shenzhen would give priority to purchasing them, and the transaction price was 2 to 4 jiao per kg higher than that of ordinary varieties.

The person in charge of the seed section of the county agricultural technology extension center introduced that ordinary eggplant varieties (combinations) yield only 1,000-1,500 kg per mu, and ordinary farmers earn 2,000 yuan to 3,000 yuan per mu from growing eggplants, while Pan Xuehui's average income from growing eggplants reached more than 8,000 yuan per mu.

It is understood that "Huayu No. 2 Eggplant" and "Guangfeng Red Eggplant" are new vegetable varieties introduced by the county agricultural technology extension center from South China Agricultural University in recent years. Among them, "Huayu No. 2 Eggplant" has been promoted on more than 1,000 mu throughout the county and has been planted in Wucun Village, Wangbin Village, and other places in Longtian Town.
