Xilin County in Guangxi Successfully Introduces Sturgeon Farming
Under the guidance of technicians from the county's Aquatic Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Bureau, Huang Ming, a villager from Nashu Tun, Banqiao Village, Zubie Yao and Miao Ethnic Township, Xilin County, built 10 fish ponds by the small river beside Nashu Tun in April this year and introduced 3,000 sturgeon fry for farming. The sturgeon are currently growing well, and the larger ones already weigh more than one jin.
It is understood that sturgeon farming has relatively high requirements for water quality: the water source must be a freshwater river with a constant flow, and the water temperature must not exceed 30°C, otherwise the sturgeon will easily die. Introducing sturgeon farming is currently the first case of its kind in the county, and sturgeon can now sell for 30 yuan per jin; after the trial farming succeeds, the county will gradually expand the farming scale, adding a new path to prosperity for the people.
