Intensive Lake Duck Farming Brings High Profits, Little Ducks Turn into Swans
Wen Zhengchun's duck and goose farm in Zhongdong Village, Piaojing Town, Dafang County, Bijie Prefecture, Guizhou Province, sits on a small lake about two kilometers from Piaojing Town. Because the mountains around the farm form a natural fence, over a thousand small white ducks can forage freely in the lake without getting lost. Just a few months after opening, he had already recovered more than 10,000 yuan in costs.
After graduating from junior high school, Wen Zhengchun went to work in Ningbo and other places in Zhejiang Province. He subcontracting projects, but because he was young and had no asset collateral or capital, he could never get the high-profit projects. So he went to work in a machinery factory, worked hard, and after a few months became an outstanding technical backbone in the factory. Later he switched to a private breeding farm with a monthly salary of less than one thousand. In one year at the duck farm, from the selection of breeding eggs, the hatching of ducklings, the mixing of feed, and the disinfection of the site, to the prevention and treatment of diseases; from the standardized management of the farm to marketing and so on, he carefully observed and devoted himself to studying every link and every step. Before this year's Spring Festival, Wen Zhengchun returned to his hometown and founded the Longtan Duck and Goose Breeding Farm in Zhongdong Village, Piaojing Town. He can achieve a success rate of more than 90% in hatching ducklings; in raising ducks he can prevent and treat 80% of diseases; for difficult and complicated cases, he can cure them through the distance education service network of Piaojing Middle School and the expert service hotline. Wen Zhengchun officially introduced ducklings in March this year. Because he had little capital, in the first phase he raised only more than 1,000 ducks. Now he has sold more than 700, making a net profit of more than 10,000 yuan. After deducting costs, for each meat duck he raises from then on, he can make a net profit of at least 25 yuan; he can send them to market 4 times a year. If he raises laying ducks, the feed investment in the first half year before laying is a bit higher, but after they start laying, with one egg a day, he can make a net profit of 3 jiao; a duck's laying period is one and a half years, and old ducks that no longer lay are also worth money; if the scale is expanded further, his income will be even higher. Now his ducks are sent directly to Guiyang for sale; he also plans to join a large company with an annual production capacity of 25 million ducks. He strives to expand the scale within one or two years to more than 5,000 ducks sent to market per phase, introducing ducklings once every 20 days, implementing rolling development, while also supplying ducklings to surrounding farmers, and providing free technical guidance and epidemic prevention services, then buying them back at a protected price after they are sent to market, so that the surrounding people can also enjoy the benefits. In Wen Zhengchun's eyes, the little ducks have already turned into beautiful swans.
