Yu Xuemei and Her Husband Carve Out a Path to Prosperity with Ecological Chicken Farming
The green, nutritious free-range chickens raised by Yu Xuemei, a farming household in the First Management District of Xianghe Farm, are highly favored by consumers, and they have also brought her family a substantial income.
"Eating mosquitoes and insects, strolling through the woods, raising ecological chickens under the trees" has allowed Yu Xuemei and her husband to reach a new level every year, and in three years they became a prosperous household. Xu Qingbin and his wife began raising chickens in 2006, when the chicken coop was small, funds were insufficient, and the number raised was under a thousand. After three years of painstaking operation, they accumulated rich breeding experience in all aspects, from brooding and epidemic prevention to raising. This year, with the support of a low-interest loan from the farm's labor union, the couple raised 1,500 local chick hatchlings in batches, all using the method of free-range foraging for mosquitoes and insects in the woods, with cornmeal added as supplemental feed. Raised in a good natural ecological environment, the local chickens have delicious meat and are green and nutritious. 500 local chickens have already grown to market size and can be sold soon.
With the support of the farm's labor union and the management district, in the second half of the year he expanded the scale of raising chickens. He took out a loan of 15,000 yuan to build a brick-and-tile chicken coop of more than 200 sq m, divided into a management room, a brooding room, and a chicken house. Recently, in the First Management District near the edge of the forest belt, a brand-new chicken coop is about to be completed. Xu Qingbin's family can then add 1,000 chick hatchlings, and through raising ecological chickens the couple's annual income is more than 20,000 yuan.
